>>714730875I'm playing through the series for the first time now (albeit I picked up a bunch of story through osmosis and diving into Indoctrination Theory) and I'm about halfway through 2, I've got 5 more loyalty missions before Reaper IFF. I think 1 is better, all the main missions are pretty well crafted and substantial, the characters range from great to getting the job done, and I actually enjoyed the side content and combat way more than I expected.
2 just feels weird, there's like 3 actual main missions and everything else is "optional" because who's really going to jump into the finale without doing as many loyalty missions as possible but at the same time, the game has to account for you not even recruiting people in the first place and among those recruits are admittedly some standouts but also some who gives a shits, it makes the Normandy feel crowded and empty in a weird way that I'm sure people could leverage towards 1, but 2 seems to revolve 80% of itself around the idea. Then on top of that you have a pretty middelling TPS and no meaningful way to break open the system like you could in 1. The upgrade system is alright but pretty basic and annoying that they can be missed, it just becomes busywork running around levels to make sure you don't miss an upgrade. The weapons all feel bad or in the case of shotguns, you get the best one 2 hours into the game and none of the others are worth using. I don't hate 2 and I inadvertently saved most the good LM for last and still have the finale to do but I don't know why it's so loved to some people.
