So, I never could afford a decent PC for gaming growing up, and just recently started using my computer for games. Is this game still worth playing in 2025? I've been curious about it for years but never had the chance to get into it. What do you think, /v/?

I tried it out a month ago and I found it fun. Multiplayer shooters aren't really my thing, but I enjoyed it a lot.
They used to have a problem where you couldn't use the chat or voice commands like calling for Medic, but they've reverted that a few weeks ago.
The bots have also been gone for a long while. I've honestly never seen a bot since i started playing.

It's still good, but whenever you hear people talk about how great it is, they are usually talking about tf2 from like 2010-2014 which was when tf2 was at its peak. It is very different from what it was desu. A big part of what made tf2 great was the community aspect like community servers, waiting for the next big update and all the hype that surrounded that, all that kind of stuff which is entirely gone now.

First you have to look up how to get your configs right, because the ingame settings suck ass and are almost useless.
Being a new player in TF2 sucks ass, partly due to a lot of pubstompers, but also because matchmaking in casual mode will almost always make stomps one way or another.
This makes learning how to play stifling.
And dont bother with most community servers. Theyre either full of unnecessary mods, tryhards, faggot shit, ads and possibly malware.

Im not telling you this to deter you, but dont go in expecting a good time immediately, once you learn the game enough to be competent is when you can start having fun

The gameplay still holds up amazingly.
Just don't use quick play or competitive.
Find a rather vanilla community server.

Also what >>714715156 is true in that most people playing this game have been playing it for over a decade.
So it will feel stompy for you until you get decent at it.
But if your generally good at shooter games it won't take long.

depends if you like hero shooters, if you do then it's easily the most popular (and arguably best) of them, if you don't it really won't have anything that will change your mind.

It's still a masterpiece. However, I would recommend you play the TF2 Classic mod because Modern TF2 has really screwed the pooch with too many pointless weapons, ugly cosmetics, and hackers. https://tf2classic.com/download
