Way too many indie games neglect environment design, even though the games that inspired them almost always had good environments

Shouldn't you be emailing devs constructive feedback instead of making pointless threads?

Left looks like an average PS1 game, right looks like an average n64 game.
PS1 games made significantly better use of color, 64 was mostly greys and browns. The way draw distance is handled is typical too, PS1 games handled distant objects better and the vertex coloring in spyro 3 is excellent and common on the console. Repeated and poorly mapped textures are typical of 64 games because of the small texture cache and bottlenecked console.

>Left game is a game aimed at children but can be enjoyed by anyone made by a studio of game devs that actually like video games and were trying to make a good platformer game that they would like to play as well.
>Right game is a game aimed at furries and porn addicted coomers made by a furry porn addicted coomer using a free game engine made by a multi-national software company and deliberately made to look bad and janky so the dev didn't need to actually make it look good and could cash in on the "low poly" nostalgia.

Spyro is memorable because you played it when you were 9 and there were only 200 games released a year.

Right is not memorable because 15000 games were released on steam alone this year and you're a fucking adult with other shit going on.

I regularly play old games for the first time that embed themselves in my memory as if I played them as a kid, this almost never happens with new games

I've enjoyed watching this place slowly remember why low poly games were always shit over the past 2 years.

How do modern 9-year-olds deal with having thousands upon thousands of games to play?
I'm sure a huge chunk of them will already have access to all of the games their parents played, and I figure modern parents are also probably more willing to buy them current games as well. They have an infinite supply of games to play with no end in sight. How do they manage?

Roblox.
They just play Roblox. Nothing else. Want to race? There's racing games. Want to platform? That's in there. Horror? You got it. FPS? Roblox.

Spyros level designer was a real life architect that just happened to end up doing videogames.
