Terrible enemy AI
Mediocre level design
Annoying unskippable cutscenes
Over long vehicle sections
an uninteresting narrative
Forgettable music
Painfully obvious scripting
Gimmicks that outlast their welcome such as antlions/bug bait
Dull turret sequences
Awful friendly AI that blocks the player way too often
Dead and uninteresting tacked on multiplayer

Literally the exact opposite of Halo 2 in every regard.

Sort of. I'm glad they worked on the single player.

Halo 2 is fucking great though, and they both are must-plays.
Literally no Halo fan even thought Half Life2 was competition at all.

HL2 is my favorite game but the unskippable cutscenes is right. The scripted parts where NPCs just talk and you have to wait for them to finish is literally just a cutscene where you can walk around. I hate red letter day and black mesa east. Pacing slows to a crawl so you can get an exposition dump.

Without nodes the AI is literally braindead and most of the time the combine soldiers just run towards you or stand still and shoot around you

Compared to even Halo 1, yes horrible. Mediocre in reality though.

Enemies on mounted guns calculate their ability to hit / fire based off a direct path to the player's vision.

I really like this gun, it's pretty much perfect for that section. Makes the barnacles more tense, encourages you to use barrels, and it shoots as fast as you can press so you usually start feeling a target out with a few shots and then dumping when you have the aim. Underrated IMO.

I wish Half-life was better. Halo 2 has a ton of flaws, it's really not that hard to make a better game but it remains one of the best in the genre just because so much of the competition is so mediocre
