Shitty music in the latest releases. Also open-world driving meme. Just give me tight tracks to race on, with or without police, like the good ol' days of 3-5.

Last one that came out was Unbound 3 years ago and it was a total flop.

I don't get what's so hard about NFS, just copy/paste Underground 2, MW, or Carbon with better graphics and newer cars.

car culture is slowly dying because cars are becoming increasingly unattainable. Most zoomers don't care about cars and the song selection usually sucks ass.

I personally also feel that after payback, where they added that retarded ass progress system the brand took a nosedive in popularity and unbound ruined the series yet again.

NSF was peak racing up to early 7th gen era and after that it was not the same.

As gaming grew digitally, there's a wider audience and more choices to scratch the gaming itch. A game focused mostly on racing without stats and lite-RPG elements isn't going to grab most younger generation's interests except for the autistic.

>stats and lite-RPG elements isn't going to grab most younger generation's interests except for the autistic
The latter part is where the sales begin. You can cater to just 10,000 people and still generate consistent revenue each quarter or year, because those 10,000 will not only bring in money but also build a community. Targeting a younger, broader audience might give big sales at first, but the game could die quickly afterward. It’s a quality over quantity audience situation

unironically Need for Speed being clean like how Criterion initially rebooted it and like the classics, being more about the raw thrill of cool cars and racing, rather than the STREET AESTHETIC crap would probably do better for them so long as they don't go Ubisoft or Xbox levels of whogivesafuck bland in the process. the Black Box era is long gone, and racing simply isn't the same anymore.

I have to agree on that. Underground 1, 2, and MW2005 had damn good licensed songs. The Run had some decent songs too such as Lonely Boy by The Black Keys and some others.

I never played Carbon, Pro Street, Undercover, HP2010, MW2012, or later games so I dunno how shitty the songs are in those but definitely have a feeling they are garbage post The Run.

I avoided NFS until it was cheap but ended up buying all the DLC because it was so fun. At launch it wasn't good but honestly the gameplay was very fun and unlike other free roaming racing games.
It was bad news that they sunset the latest NFS because the final patches were actually really good with big gameplay changes and improvements.

What kept me away was the disgusting music choices and ugly cartoon people they tried to sell. Trying way too hard to sell some soft pudgy andro thing as a tough racer that's lost in a speed high in a criminal world listening to some lame rap gibberish.

Like that JAGUAR ad campaign that tanked their car brand, that's what happened to NFS.

at first it was because of lack of innovation due to the crushing deadlines
Black Box had great ideas that they simply couldnt execute because of the yearly NFS releases, just look up the amount of cut content games like Pro Street and Undercover have
after Black Box died the entire franchise just was having a giant identity crisis

It's a number of things related to car culture in general dying
>modern cars are by and large shit because of increasingly strict safety and emissions regulations: everything coming out now is a boring, slow, jellybean-shaped mom-mobile crossover
>zoomers are by and large uninterested in cars and terrified of driving so they don't even have a driver's license and won't even try to get one
>buying, modifying, and maintaining a car is a far off dream for most people because of how expensive it is now. Most people are just going to get a used 100k+ miles on the odometer shitbox or an aforementioned mom-mobile just so they can get to and from work and just drive it into the ground

It's not just in the visuals, it's also in the physics. New games feel like you can make any corner at any speed, even when you can't. UG and MW gave you a clear indication that no, you can't, you can feel that you are going too fast for what's coming next from the car getting tighter, but it's not yet time to slow down. Pro Street attempted to murder you even on the straights.

HP2010 may have been a Burnout game in all but name, but it did have a good sense of speed and forced the player to approach corners with more finesse than just jamming down the accelerator and steering left or right. Granted that does mean drifting through basically any corner sharper than a gentle curve, but it was still better than mindless turning.

TLDR:
>dogshit tier publisher who doesn't care that games need time to develop and only see profits as main drive
>devs lack desire to take risks and instead take dumbest decisions ever
>dick sucking of Most Wanted with Underground 2 because they were bestsellers back in the day (big factor here because it's bad idea overall, that ship has sailed long time ago and devs should have moved on to something else)
>forced multiplayer instead of focusing on singleplayer
>bad physics model that took 5 games to fix
>progressively worse and worse soundtracks (NFS used to have top tier soundtracks in most games)

>>714733759
Carbon is halfbaked game that is also a stepping stone for all things that are wrong with games industry, and once you play it long enough, you notice the cracks very quickly. All complaints are reasonable, and I'm saying this as somebody who considered it as one of personal top 5 games in past. Nowadays I wouldn't touch it with 10 foot pole with how bad it is.

Massively overglazed, it's merely average and is being carried hard by aesthetics and the competition all collectively shitting themselves to death. Parries being so overpowered effectively removes the need to engage with any other mechanic once you learn to press parry/jump/gradient to the audio cue like a trained seal.

As zoomer it's less about being terrified of driving and more about affording things. Maintaining car in current economy can be a hassle sometimes, let alone driving anything fancier than 90s or 2000s shitboxes. New cars are also getting shittier, are expensive, age like shit because half of car is plastic and is cheaply made, and on top of all that- new cars are incredibly boring because of politics.
Most zoomers are broke because job market is generally fucked, everybody around the corner wants to rob you, and prices of everything doesn't make things any better either. 2000s and early 2010s were the peak for cars as hobby. Nowadays it's after party everywhere and younger generations are being left to fight for scraps like bunch of cockroaches while older generations simply think it's all easy.

boomer/GenX car culture was a competition to see how many litters they could pack in while still somehow having less power than a ride on mower.

I never liked how arcadey most NFS games were with the nitro bullshit, visual effects and lack of collision damage.
I really enjoyed NFS Porsche in that regard.

You're legitimately brain dead if you think dnb and numetal is worse than nigger beats in the new NFS games.
Nigger music lacks the energy. All niggers know how to do is spin they hellcat and crash in an intersection.

I think the last time I drove was in 2021.

Maybe players got sick of driving? It used to be a feature found mostly in racing games but then it got into all these open-world games, and driving from A to B turned into a chore.

I meant I enjoyed Porsche in that regard because it did have pretty realistic physics (for that time).

I didn't bother with anything after carbon because all the games after it look sterile and boring, they didn't look cool to me. same with forza and grand turismo. In a way i'm kinda glad midnight club died after la otherwise it would end up as a zombie franchise like nfs.

The problem was that NFS turned into Fast and Furious in all but name and moved out of street racing and into retarded action movie setpieces around the same time those movies did. You went from an illegal street race with tuned up midrange cars to jumping off cliffs onto moving trains in a $1.5m Koenigsegg.

If you can get it for 5-10 bones then go for it, it isn't worth more than that. The car selection is meh, the police chases are subpar, the game holds way too much back from you but to be fair you can clear this game in like six or so hours so they needed some form of padding. Unbound has worse single player (that being said I only watched some reviews on it that because my game bugged out and I couldn't even finish the single player) but if you're cool with multiplayer it's an okay time and the extraction mode is surprisingly fun but
