Why has John Romero's post-Doom career been such a failure?
Too much own fart sniffing and not enough game developing.
Is releasing .wads not a viable business option ?
>>714727707 (OP)he is talented but it's balanced out by his idealism and delusion
What was the excuse for Blackroom?
why the fuck do all these washed up gamedevs need to continue making big expensive games?
make something smaller idiots, show that you are actually talented and creative.
>"b-but i NEEED to have 10 000+ polygon faces to show the real emotio-"

>>714727707 (OP)shoulda seen it coming john, no matter how much they pretend these media conglomerates can only lose billions of dollars so many times before they shut down
>On 19 July 2022 Romero Games announced that they are starting work on an original, new AAA FPS IP with Unreal Engine 5
>5 years

>>714727707 (OP)>Why has John Romero's post-Doom career been such a failure?because he doesn't release any fucking games even though he says hes always working on something big.
what was his new game going to be anyways
>>714728061Never trust a 'man' with shoulder long hair
>>714727707 (OP)He can't code for shit. Glorified level designer - a skill which doesn't translate well into today's linear hallway or barren open world slop.
True answer—if a developer's name is publicly attached to a project that succeeded, they aren't the reason it succeeded. Look at all of em.
>Sid Meier games immediately suck ass when the actual talent leaves and they take on "strategy light" developers
>Paul Reiche and Fred Ford have mysteriously never made a good game after Star Control 2 yet have been promising to any day now for 30 years straight
>After Julian Gollop left Microprose, he spent over 20 years trying to recreate X-Com (and failing) before just falling into the modern era where he makes shovelware and posts about how great Sweetbaby is
>Every single fucking thing Keiji Inafune did post-Capcom despite being credited as planner and designer for dozens of timeless hits
Do you want to know why John Romero isn't making kickass games? Because he's one part of a machine. Salvaging the seats and gear shifter from a mustang and putting it in a shitty ricer doesn't make the car go faster, no matter how much you like it. If you want to make this analogy but using the engine, consider this: was Julian Gollop the engine when he threw a pissy fit because Microprose instructed him to add a strategic layer to his new Laser Squad game, leading him to spitefully rebrand it as a new game, X-Com, as to not taint the integrity of his "own beloved series" after this new one flopped?
If you know their name, they are likely an incomplete, non-functioning package.
>>714731110I'm still mad about Phoenix Point
Glad I didn't buy it
John Romero is old as shit and the way he plays games has not withstood the test of time. There's video footage of him playing DUSK where he fucking still aims with the arrow keys and misses every shot.
>>714731404kojima took his team with him, dummy
>>714727707 (OP)Romero wasn't the talent at old ID. He was just lucky to be there.
>>714731110American Mcgee was 100% the reason the alice games suceeded
>>714727707 (OP)He got lazy. Homeboy produced basically nothing for 20 years.
>>714734132>Romero wasn't the talent at old ID. He was just lucky to be there.Truth.
He is only remembered, because he is by far the most charismatic dude of the bunch.
>>714731404kojima is the epitome of hollywood reject ideaguy, he has a team and squeenix money, and arguably wasnt even the main contributor/writer to MGS
