It feels like almost every game in early access stays that way forever. Gets all the attention while in early access and then the devs abandon it like Valheim.

Project Zomboid has been promising NPCs since 2019. It's a 2013 game for fuck sake it shouldn't be in Early access for over a decade.

Subnautica i guess was the only game that left early access properly, though it took them like 7 years

Approaching Infinity. Off-brand star trek roguelike, basically

Was in development hell/trapped on shrapnel games 2013-2020. Got on steam early access in 2020 with more content than a good 2/3 of "complete" games and left EA a few months back.

Here's a few off the top of my head. Buying games in early access and seeing it go along the development process was fun like 10 years ago, but I just don't bother with EA games anymore. It's not like I'm running out of games to play.

They removed reddit Keanu Reeves and rewrote the whole story and made the game an actual RPG with fun combat and a world you can actually interact with that's not full of cripple NPCs that stand up and run after a gunshot?

Starbound burnt me enough for early access-related stuff, and I've been hesitant since. Streets of Rogue was good though, I waited years for their weekly updates to finish and for it to release, and had fun. A shame SoR2 is being hit with so many issues.

The game doesn't hold your hand and you will likely have to look up a tutorial on how to assemble the car yourself.
No different from real life I suppose though eh?
What you will likely learn is how a car works and get a hang of common car issues as you will be spending sometime troubleshooting once you've assembled the car and by extension, engine.

Starbound is 2d sidescrolling minecraft. Dogshit/BAREBONES vanilla game but can be fun if modded enough.

Well ok, it does one thing better than minecraft: there's an open source port that even works with steam workshop mods. https://github.com/OpenStarbound/OpenStarbound

Terraria is too good to be comparable to being a 2d version of minecraft, anon. After all, terraria's vanilla is actually a complete game with a decent amount of content while minecraft's is insanely empty/barebones.

I understand why a lot of people resent EA and crowdfunding. A lot of con-man9s and grifters, but it's better than โ€œfull releasesโ€ where the designer has a deadline and can't fully develop his ideas and starts making compromises.

It's only continuous because they've spent an entire decade making changes at a snails pace instead of adding new content, ala reworking the entire animation system. Louisville was the biggest addition and it's clear that it actually needs more of an incentive to exist, that being NPCs.

Meh. If they're priced appropriately for autistic passion project grinds and they do deliver on content size why not.

Zomboid gave more than any other dev would've because they'd have stamped a "this is finished" over a shitty system that's like every other generic system and call it a day and that's whatd have happened if the indie stone sold to Microsoft or some shit.

Exactly. I followed a kickstarter game called Stonehearth by the EVO (fighting game) founders. They used the game as free venture funding to get their dev studio off the ground. Then when they got bought out by Riot (for Rising Thunder), slapped 1.0 on their city builder and abandoned it.

Technically 7D2D has "left Early Access" and moved onto a plan of (as quoted) "Is Minecraft Early Access just because it still gets biome and content updates?" But the simple fact that it's still devoid of so many of it's stated goal features, like the campaign and bandits, means to me it's still EA without the logo. The roadmap suggests it'll actually leave EA in Q4 2025, but they missed the window of the first update from the stated Q4 2024 all the way to last week, it'll be more like 2027.
