What happened to them? Why are there like, a couple and everything else is racing sim with microtransactions out the ass or indie games?

>What happened to them?
Boomers and GenXers don't really play video games. Most millenials and zoomers don't care about cars as much as the older gens and just see them as disposable appliances. Newer cars are faggy and boring to meet increasingly stricter safety and emissions standards. Automakers also probably demand too much for licensing if devs want to use actual cars in their games which is likely why most games use made up knockoff bullshit. AAA slop is run by pussies and will only make car games they sell well. And ever since I got my first car and learned what it's like, I have almost no interest in arcade car games.
>racing sim with microtransactions out the ass
IDK what you're talking about.

Didnโ€™t the burnout devs make their own spiritual successor to burnout? I wonder what happened to that. Oh and Tokyo xtreme racer got a reboot. So thereโ€™s that.

You got Dangerous Driving, which is unapologetically Burnout 3 without the budget, and the Danger Zone games that were basically the Crash mode. They were making a DR2 but they tried to contact publishers and then went radio silent before THQ Nordic picked them up and it's now Wreckreation. Still no release date.

Does iRacing have microtransactions built into it besides their membership fee? I wouldn't know, I don't waste money on shit like that - subscriptions are for cucks.
>Gran Turismo
Yeah wouldn't know, haven't touched Gran Turismo since PS2.
>Forza Motorsport
Also haven't touched it since FM4. IIRC Forza Horizon 4 has some DLC packs, but the majority of the content is free. Dunno about FH5 or FM7 or whatever other titles. Forza is not a simulator, it's simcade LARP, at least from the titles I've played. AFAIK the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer doesn't have microtransactions, or at least not that I've heard.

yep, you pay for 26 cars and 30 tracks in the sub, and then eeeeeeverything else from over 160 cars and 140 tracks has to be bought separately. and with it being an MMO-style sub game, you can't play a single thing you've bought in any sort of offline mode.

We're in a golden age of arcade ports with updated modes and settings, so at the top of my list is a new Sega AGES line with OutRun 2 and Scud Race

It feels like every racer is either:
>Autistic sim shit
oh, but if you toggle all the options off you can make it a pseudo-sim arcade racer so its okay, despite it not having any of the appeal of actual arcade racers, nor having any depth. may as well add an option that plays the game for you while you hold down the accelerate button and call it an arcade racer
>Kart racers with shitty items
oh boy, i love getting hit with random items every 30 seconds, and getting rewarded with broken items for being further behind. at least older kart racers had better item balance and the better racer would always win
>futuristic Sci-fi antigravity racers
either highspeed trial and error racers that require pixel perfect techniques to turn 90 degree corners, or are braindead racers where you can win by just hugging the wall

Wish item-less arcade racers were more common. miss stuff like hydro thunder, burnout, RUSH, star wars podracing, midnight club, motorsport, splitsecond, etc

Had to refund the game, I like it, but it's no zero. Hopefully when the game is actually finished they improve the gameplay.

Yeah that's cringe af. I'll continue enjoying Assetto and pirating any payware shit. Also for arcade, AFAIK there's private servers for Test Drive Unlimited and Need For Sneed World. Haven't tried them myself though, want to check out the TDU private server but I don't trust it and will wait for them to establish more of a reputation first.

Entire racing genre is on life support in general. Even indie games are just outrun/old low poly rally clones lol. There are multiple genres that are basically on life support too like stealth for example. There are more fighting games announced than racing and stealth games coming up which is hilarious.

Stealth games got rolled into the Open World Slop Package, where everything now just has a generic timed indicator and basic sight cones, if it even bothers with stealth to begin with. No company wants to make a Splinter Cell or a Tenchu, and Metal Gear can scrape by on modernizing the controls so it can emphasize combat as an alternative now.

This was neat for a while but the game more or less plays itself so once you've played every level a few times you've had enough
