MOBAs kinda have the same "problem"
Where laning/farming is gradually balanced out in favor of constant team fighting.

Lower the difficulty. You're playing above your level. Also on harder difficulties the AI straight up cheats. They get more money/units, things take less time for them than it does for you.

I would guess that the game probably starts you at some sort of "medium" skill rating. If you're really bad and keep losing you should eventually drop low enough to reach the steering wheel underhive.

That's WW2 tho
a WW1 RTS would be even slower than CoH and more focused on single infantry units and squads, positioning, bunkering, rather than vehicles doing all the work

The Art of War scenarios are designed for this exact reason: to get you up to speed on a 25+ year-old game. No other RTS remaster has the courtesy to give you the same.

Nta, but I think you should apply all of it in games. Build your economy, scouting, fast castle, all of it together, then battle.

Somewhat, work yourself up slowly, get accustomed to more civs, and get comfortable with binding hotkeys especially to save time. The grid hotkeys DE has are a good place to build off, but stuff like changing the building selection ones and also some combinations for selecting all idle military, villagers, etc can be useful. Mouse 4/5 being go-to TC and idle villagers respectively is also useful by default considering you want constant production.

Extreme AI is a considerable step up without resorting to cheating, but not exactly flawless.

This and they went and nerfed old civs because they were played too much by pros. Like remove thumb ring from vikings because they should be "melee infantry oriented" when there's no such thing as being infantry oriented in this game because infantry are trash early game throwaway units. Fucking vikings actually did use thumb rings IRL so the change isn't just stupid on a balance level either.

HD offered a dataset that was basically untouched AoC even when Forgotten Empires made their mark originally, that version is still technically around too. Still, with DE's expanded subgame selection you'd think they could offer a classic mode or something, although engine differences wouldn't exactly make it 1:1. Anything past DE's release is especially skubby but Wei/Wu/Shu certainly have no fucking business whatsoever being in ranked, and should've been in Chronicles like they were ostensibly intended. 100% executive meddling for the PS5 release.

>>714746506
>nerfed old civs

Most of the AoK/AoC civs other than maybe Britons and Mayans ultimately got a net buff or went relatively unchanged, the issue is more competing civs in the same fields. Infantry is the best it's ever been currently and Vikings ended up getting +1 to Archer attack as a lategame tech after the loss of Thumb Ring. A 52% winrate isn't bad at all, especially in this Khitan-induced hell.

Take your pick.

>Georgians repair faster and buildings take even less damage with terrain advantage, can get more damage on defenses and you also get Fortified Churches
>Teutonic castles in Imperial Age reach so far that they can snipe non-Turk Bombards if you shell out for Crenellations
>Korean towers can do that too, but they're towers and devs lightened on their fortification focus
>Jurchens with slowly regenerating fortifications
>Slavs with taking out some of the stone cost for wood
>Bulgarians and Sicilians have some alternate defensive buildings, the latter builds castles even faster
>Byzantines are inherently defensive by nature, but your cheaper trash units have to offset the lack of a cost effective power unit
>Spanish build fast
>Celts and Persians have an odd castle buff tech each but aren't really for turtlemaxxing

Obviously, you are best turtling on a closed map. You otherwise risk your opponent booming and taking most of the map's resources. Amazon Tunnel can make for a long ass game in a free-for-all, as it generates a pinwheel. Walling up like that one guy in an ancient /v/ screencap doesn't really work that well, seeing that Siege Rams have a two-tile blast radius to eat through walls with.

>>714743564
The AI resource cheating is only a thing in the CD version and maybe during given campaign scenarios. Which is more of a problem of design intent; good part of why nobody likes the Berber one.

Just install it, it's literally free, no ingame purchases or anything.
Then go into a skirmish vs AI and spawn use the console to get infinite resources and build power so that you can build every unit instantly. Then look at their models, walking animations etc.
I get not liking the robot/scifi aesthetic but calling it "zero imagination" comes a from a place of ignorance or malice.
>>714752673
That's probably because you watch the big 40v40 events and stuff where everything is so zoomed out.
But there's plenty of different units. Spider mechs, ornithopter air units, submarines, weird chicken walker mortars with rotary cannons.
You can look at all the 2 main factions here
https://www.beyondallreason.info/units/cortex-bots
There's currently a 3rd one in the works which has imo the coolest units so far.
