Isaac's more of a character in the remake as he's fully voiced, like he was in 2.
You can't really go wrong with either, unless you want fancy graphics.

I advocate for the original without playing the remake. The changes I saw they made seemed odd, like how the characters looked and behaved. The new zero g sections in the remake are nice albeit. And I saw they improved the turret section imo so that is a big plus for the remake in my eyes.

remake. it's just the same game but better. the only conceivable negative is that it received a small pozz injection but it's very very easy to ignore and most won't notice it unless it's pointed out or they're plagued with Jewish Trick Noticer's Disorder like me. it's still a better game despite that. better mechanics for zero-G, better darkness (scarier), better weapon upgrades and alt fires, better isaac.

this is one of the rare occasions where the remake is just flat out more enjoyable. looks great, more lore, Isaac feels more fleshed out as a character, and the weapons are just better. except for the pulse rifle, that thing fucking sucks ass.

I'd go with original, since it's going to be less expensive and far easier to run in general. Though you'll have to download somethings for better mouse controls, widescreen, better AA and FOV. None of which is particularly complicated, but will make it to a more modern standard. Since it was ported over during the fucking dark ages.

The remake is pretty good; but you get a bit more out of it after playing the original. It does quite a few things objectively better, has a few interesting changes, but as one should suspect, you get a lot of unnecessary changes to make the game to current year -2 arbitrary social standards. Which are more annoying than anything else.

I'm gonna say both
For remakes you usually get more out of them if you play through the original first, you go "ohh they changed xyz that's cool" and it adds more to it
If you only gonna choose one game then remake, isaac's VA is really good since he started from DS2 and generally the changes are better

its petty but I don't like the minute amount of politics the devs of the remake put in.
I won't try to argue about the game itself when I only know the original.
I played the original after the release of 3, and found nothing lacking, and that is all I can say.

Original, always and forever. You should, if able, always play the original of a game and Dead Space 1 is not only still available to play, it's still functional on modern operating systems and hardware.

Hold up...they actually made him talk in the remake? LMAO. Way to ruin the vibe and identity of the game you're remaking. Part of what made DS1 so good (and way better than the sequels) was the immersion, which benefited from having a silent protagonist. Isaac started yapping way too much in the sequels and then gay love triangle shit happened. Why is new ALWAYS bad, bros?

Remake, but the original looks insane for its age and holds up well.

The remake is on a crazy sale right now so it's a no brainier.

Isaac looks like absolute shit in the remake, but the game does look great otherwise.
I would say play the original first, then play the remake. This is the golden rule for all remakes.

Original.
Some retard will say it culture war bullshit, however, it's because Issac Clark worked much better as a silent protagonist, the interconnected ship in the remake didn't serve much of a purpose in terms of gameplay or mechanics, the lighting and sound design were better in the original, the lack of a "scare director" meant cleared rooms stayed clear instead of just random jump scare vent encounters that got stale quick.

The original had faults, sure, but the overall package was better. The remake is still a good time though and if you are playing on PC I hear the controls are better. OG Dead Space had infamously bad PC controls.

The Dead Space novel Martyr broke down Altman's discovery of the marker on Earth.
He was not a prophet by any stretch and did his level best at destroying the fucking thing recognizing the marker as the messed up cosmic horror that it was. He was killed for his troubles, his findings on researching it twisted into the basis for Unitology, and Altman would consider the religion and it's followers as batshit insane.

It's a very heavy handed take on religion being used as control device for large populations, however, unlike many, I fully support religion being used in such a matter to promote social cohesion despite being firmly in the camp of "Religion is fundamentally bullshit".

>Is the sequel better?
Depends what you want out of a sequel.
Streaming was fairly new when DS came out and the suits at EA found the average play session for DS was only about 15 minutes with players complaining that the overall sense of dread was too nerve wracking for long stretches, so they had to scale back the horror some while making it more action oriented.

Dead Space is like the movie Alien (horror focused with action elements)
Dead Space 2 is like the movie Aliens (Action focused with horror elements)
Dead Space 3 is like Alien 3 (Shat on hard for good reason when it first came out but viewed as okay but not great when revisited today).

Yeah, and the remake came out and streaming is so pervasive I can't help but feel many a scene and design choice was made to make streamers fake scream on camera for views.

Original. Much better atmosphere and art direction. Somehow has better animations than a game made 15 years later with a higher budget. Isaac being silent fits better for the first game.

i don't get the hate for isaac being voiced in the remake. he still barely talks. it's only during the video calls and close encounters with other survivors like mercer and not-nicole, and even then he still says one or two sentences tops. you're making it seem like he's aloy and won't shut the fuck up or is pointing out puzzle solutions. he doesn't do any of that.
