>>714773308>even i used to believe that story is the most important thing in a gameYeah, when you were 15.
Nowdays i simply dont have the patience for story. I like worldbuilding and whatnot but story is mainly about emotional investment and most games simply dont know how to achieve that. They think more dialogue and more cutscenes will make you more emotionally invested.
Thats not to say im compeltely agaisnt story in videogames, but the more i play the more i find out i prefer games that manage to weave the story into the gameplay or have it be low key but poignant. Im reminded of Sifu. That game had the basic "revenge bad" plot but its so well presented and doesnt really stop the action to do so. Its also a super hard game so when you actually take revenge you feel emotionally connected to the story, and when you get good enough to actually spare the bosses you feel less adrenaline from the combat but you achieve more like a focus type flow as you master the combat, which is also what the story is: You become such a master of Kung Fu that you have mastery over your own vengeful thoughts that you dont let them consume you. Thats a really well told story thats communicated primarily through the combat.
Or course faggots online were complaining the game was too hard. I often wonder what the fuck these people want. Dont they know easy mode is simply patronizing? Dont they know the challenge is part of the experience? They cant possibly think theyre getting the same experience as someone who plays at the intended difficulty, so all they really want is to demand not to be left out. They dont want to face their own incompetence. Very womanly emotions.
