Retarded game design.
But the game is designed for min max autists.

For some reason I never played this.
Played kingmaker like seven times, loved it.
But never started wotr.
I'd probably love it but I just never got round. I think choice paralysis from the legend classes is what's doing it.

How does the game compare to kingmaker?

it's better because it feels more focused and the mythic paths are cool as fuck

This is the reason to play on medium difficulties, the higher ones demand unrealistic multiclassing and minmaxing your character into a clown instead of roleplaying and having distinct roles.

Pre-buffing is bad game design. It should either be passive, or something you do in combat.

I think it's because I don't want the 'wrong' mythic.
I never cross class unless I'm going 10 points into an advanced class like arcane trickster or the dragon transformation, in kingmaker. So my build is decided from the first level.
I guess I'm worried I'll have a build and enjoy it, then hate the associated mythic or the fitting mythic won't use the same stats or something.

you don't buff for those, only for big boys. And for those it felt like powering up in DBZ

Nta, but medium is too easy while the preset harder difficulty requires too much minmax to be fun anymore. Custom difficulty is fine but you don't get achievements.

Don't be a shiteater over it. Turn the difficulty down if you can't handle it.

higher power level all around.
The first 6 levels or so go in a flash and mythic levels add a lot of powerto your character on top of that.
If you like power fantasy go for it, I'm more of low power enjoyer and charging fuck huge demons only to kill multiple enemies in a single round got boring fast.

Buffing isn't as bad as some people try to make it out to be, use autobuff and rush the area before they run out. Once your spells last for 10minutes or so you'll never have to recast shit before resting.

I think we play kinda smilar. Mythic paths are really fitting most roles, you can play like super op healer angel, but also pretty good DMG caster or melle paladin.
My first run was mythic Path angel that i change to Legend
Class was barbarian flesh eater, mythic Path let you take 20more lvl so i picked barbarian 2h. My character killed most enemies in first attacks without buffs
I think its great game but i never tried kingmaker because i miss mythic paths

And that's an issue for people? Not getting some virtual asspat for killing 1k trash mobs or maxing out some skill / item's enchantment?

Mythics just allow a whole bunch of new abilities, which you can pick and choose from to fit your build. A lich can be both an effective caster and a melee fighter, for example. And the game introduces them pretty slowly, so I think you'll be able to figure your build out just fine. First two mythic levels aren't even choosing anything specific, just giving you the taste of the powers, and you can change your mind later.
...but also it's perfectly fine if you choose the mythic just for the roleplaying aspect, or the aesthetic itself, rather than for the build. You'll make it work anyway.

>get toybox
>make my buffs last 8000 years
>basically perma buff myself so I don't have to bother ever buffing myself
And the game suddenly improved, it's still a slog but it's less of a slog.

Most people don't want difficulty at all in their games. They want the illusion of difficulty. They don't want to ever lose an encounter no matter how poorly they played or how bad their build is, but they still want them to be seemingly threatening enough that they feel that they could have potentially lost.
