I nearly refunded this game on the spot during the intro due to this shit. Even after turning all that shit off the game was massively improved but it's still too blurry at any kind of distance more than a couple of metres. It's incredible how much they tried to sabotage some genuinely good visuals and aesthetics.

most devs just ship the default ue5 configs epic provides. "optimization" is not a thing with unreal engine. everything is presets by the engine maker not the game developer.

This actually looks better. The painted world is supposed to look like a stylized painting, the post-process effects actually help achieve that. The OP image just looks like a raw 3D showcase.

Sharpening is not detail or clarity. It's just increasing the neighboring contrast, resulting in crunchier visuals. If you want detail or clarity, get a higher resolution monitor.

Unfortunately turning the volumetric fog off introduces graphical glitches. So for anyone playing it for the first time I'd advise to leave it on.

Tried making a quick fix, obviously not perfect but even with my shit photoshop skillz you can at least tell the difference between the banners and the goop at a quick glance. Never played this game, is this Expedition 33?

Vanilla looks better. But I also find it difficult to understand why I'm not impressed by the graphics in this game. It's colorful and detailed and should be visually interesting, but it also feels kind of disorganized and muddy and all blends together. The world feels like a dead backdrop because things like the floating chairs are locked in place, you can run into or shoot them and there are no physics at all except for a few crates you can crumble. There are invisible walls and bounding boxes everywhere, making it feel like a simple NES game that had a ton of frilly detail added to it. Surprisingly there is a bit of actual platforming that can be done, but it can be hard to pick out the climbable stuff from all the noise.
I understand why yellow paint is used now but I would rather we just turn back from this overly detailed "realism" and make pretty artstyles that are readable at a glance again

I don't know if it's UE5's fault or simply that the creators decided to design these locations with a theme. For example, the sacred forest is almost exclusively in shades of red, or the last location of act 1 is just gray cliffs.

I do agree that some games relies too much on post-processing and they often masks shitty graphics with extreme amounts of blur and smoothing
but completely taking the opposing direction and leaning hard on removing every bit of post-processing is just as retarded
