In Resident Evil 4, survival is just the beginning. Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors, tracks the president's kidnapped daughter to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals.

Featuring modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics,
Resident Evil 4 marks the rebirth of an industry juggernaut.

Relive the nightmare that revolutionized survival horror.

it was made by Capcom at arguably the peak of their golden age (95-05) from Shinji Mikami who was an arcade chad, which shows in its gameplay

My 3 biggest problems with remake 4 is: RNG based mechanics, down time and level design

Game has way too much RNG on mechanics. Stopping attacks is one of the things that has RNG and completely fucks you most of the time. Some weapons have higher numbers, but in difficulties like Pro at max adap difficulty, it's a fucking pain to get a stagger, a flinch or even a chance to melee enemies. Not only that, there's so little drops that are not based on RNG it sucks to route it. I was able to make a somewhat consistent route, but sometimes I still won't either have the money or enough ammo to sell and get money.

This game has so much down time and so much bloat to get to the cool action parts it's tiring. Leon now runs at a snails pace, couple that with the many more areas they added to remake without any enemy or any exploration and you have a game where you more hold W+Shift without dodging enemies and boring levels. The village is ok, it has many cool places and not so much downtime, until you get to the night part. That motherfucking boat ride is a damn slog to explore, the boat take ages to go place to place, aside from this part, the rest of the village is pretty ok.

The level design is something special. They wanted you to fight more, make the game more action oriented at that, so you run at 0.9x your normal speed or some number like that, so you're required to fight and can't run most of the time. Some places just don't have much space for your to run in while avoiding enemies or enemies randomly run and grab you, so you need to use your knife, the later is alright - you're taking a risk -, but this game feels less like a game of choices, like RE1-4OG, and more a kill everything you see type deal, like RE5, and even then you could manuver yourself a lot in RE5. There's many places that are just corridors, again, a lot of down time for no reason other than trying to pace the player at devs pace and not the player being able to control it. Ashley's part is boring and it always feels it has being streched to the ends of time and the armour don't give as much as a doding challenge to make things interesting.

I'm glad you enjoyed it even if you did play the worst version (PS2). Make sure you try out the PC version with the HD mod, it's fucking amazing.
