What're you looking for? Turn based, tactics, or action? Serious story, lighthearted, or little story?

Dragon Quest XI S
Gameplay wise it's doesn't get more basic JRPG than it, there's a series of side quest that has you play in sections of older games so you can get a taste of older JRPGs are like and the production values are on still the high end for the genre, so there's VA, good graphics, music quality and well done animations.

Switch has plenty. Persona 4 and 5 are pretty lighthearted most of the time. Also Xenoblade 2. Atelier games are almost always pretty sweet.

Do you pay for NSO+? You get access to paper Mario, Mario and Luigi; superstar saga or even Mario RPG remake on switch are solid RPGs

The switch remake of paper Mario TTYD isn't great, but its not awful either. I would say Pokémon is a good beginners RPG, but there aren't any good one on Switch so...weird there's no Earthbound on the switch NSO.

These are pretty good starter RPGs. Some may argue stuff like Xenoblade or Bravely Default whatever, but I think these are good ways to dip your toes in the JRPG genre.

Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI or VII
Super Mario RPG
if you dislike them, you weren't made for jrpgs.

I think the two games that convert the most people are the Purse Owner series and Chrono Trigger.
Persona does have walls of text so you need to be ready for that, but it tends to get even the most diehard cutscene skippers to pay attention despite the length.
Chrono Trigger is just fantastic in all areas, moves quick, looks great, combats fun, you'll be looking up anime cave girl hentai after you finish, great characters in spite of limited text etc.
