Just finished Sly 1, and I don't really get it. It was fun but didn't really stick out all that much. Music was good and was a nice little game but I feel it gets praised way more than it may merit. Maybe I'm wrong.
Also just finished TLF. Game kinda sucks all around. Parts of it were neat but man, it controls like dook.

PS2 emulation has improved by leaps and bounds, I use PCSX2 and I've had zero problems with any of the Ratchet games.
Which is great because my copy of Deadlocked is scratched and would lag really hard when loading into Sarathos.

Absolutely worth getting into, Ratchet 1 has got a lot of Spyro in it's DNA, from 2 onwards the series finds its footing, and it's some damn good footing.

I think the Ratchet games stayed strong with only one or two full game dips. Haven't played Rift Apart yet so I don't know if that one is good. Also haven't played the PSP games so I'm not a real fan.

RA I thought was good. Doesn't quite hit the peaks of the series but still a good entry in the series.
As for the handheld games, you can easily skip Secret Agent Clank. Size Matters is alright if you don't compare it to the console games and go into it with the mindset that it's absolutely a handheld game.

I never got another a Playstation past the PS2 and when I saw Rift Apart was coming to steam, I told myself that it's not going to be anything like the PS2 games and that the whole reason I wanted it was out of nostalgia.

Bought it on sale earlier this year and I would say Rift Apart is just as good as the PS2 games, it's not everything those games were, but it holds up to them pretty well.

>Jak 2
I have NEVER played a worse game than Jak 2 and I doubt I ever will again, let me tell you everything wrong with that game, why it's clear that ND took everything they knew about game developer and hucked it out the window.
>Combat
You have "8" hits BUT 99.99% of enemies deal 2 damage a hit and are ranged, they also attack too frequently for you having no ability to aim outside of running at them or by standing still to let the auto-aim hit them.
There's the melee attacks you're not suppose to use because everything does 1/4th of your health a hit and you rarely get close enough to melee without being hit and even when you do it's likely you'll immediately get hit afterwards.

Then there's "Dark Jak" where you get frozen in place for a few seconds to allow everything to fuck you up, this mode gives you strong melee abilities that you are encouraged not to use because if you do you are going to get your ass fucked, the ONLY time it becomes viable is near the end of the game where it gets upgraded to make you invincible, and even then it's only useful to make the final boss easier to fight by doing the second half of its health in one hit.

>Vehicles
Everything is made of explosive wet paper with some of the worst controls I have ever seen, and worse there are missions that require you to speed around the narrow streets with lots of sharp turns in these wet paper vehicles, sometimes you're even under constant attack to make them even more fragile.
But THEN the fun begins, where you're REQUIRED to race in these vehicles, BUT with even WORSE controls than before by removing the ability to brake, and you MUST win to progress.
Then the final race of the game ups the shit factor by placing you in the city and making it so you have to pass through rings along the way, if you miss even one you have to restart the entire race.

>Checkpoints
NONE. You d not get ANY checkpoints, one bullshit experience and you're doing everything all over again.

continued...

>Escort missions
Sometimes you have to escort NPCs, who may or may not defend themselves well, if they die you have to restart the entire mission.
This isn't too big of an issue UNTIL you have to deal with a sliding block puzzle while an NPC fends off enemies, he'll either live to the end or die instantly, it's like a timer that randomizes its duration every second.

>Pickups
Pickups are set in stone, if you're using the wrong gun for a level, you're going to run out of its ammo.
And health pickups are extremely rare, so you have to play extra careful to not take even one hit, because you have no idea how long before you find more health.

>Jak 3
Improves everything and goes a bit overboard with checkpoints.

>can't refute anything I've said
>starts screaming buzzwords
Jak 2 is absolute dogshit and anyone who thinks otherwise is lobotomized by nostalgia.

Jak 2 is like early 3D Sonic, your ability to enjoy it tied to your ability to play around the bullshit. It's personally one of my favorite games but that's because I have been playing and replaying it since I was a kid and know what to do or not do to make the experience smooth. But it's hard to deny that it makes some bizarre and unintuitive design choices that are only made worse by the game giving zero fucks at times.

The problem is there's bullshit every step of the way, Jak 2 is more like and indie pixel platformer, requires either absolute dedication to it or a lifetime of experience to play it casually.

When you’re a kid with like 4 video games a tough game that took a while to beat was seen as a bonus especially because it felt good clearing it and years later replaying it remembering how bullshit it was. The game Is fine, get your panties out of a twist. I beat thst shit when i was in like elementary school and back than you don’t even perceive it as “le bad design” thats just how the game was lol

Adding the french word for "the" doesn't make something invalid, Jak 2 is a bad game and always will be.

Every time anyone defends Jak 2 it's because they've played it since they were young, when you would keep doing something just because you could, void of reason or serious thought.
Having a lifetime of experience in something does not make it good.

Honestly congratulations, you're able to enjoy a game that few others can.
To many others, if you cannot get good at a game through reasonable effort, then it's not a good game.
Jak 2 requires absurd levels of understanding, almost mastery of it's bullshit, I am not one who is willing to put up with that.

Isn't that true for PS1 and N64 too? N64 is just Mario 64, Banjo and DK64, PS1 has two 1st party tilogies, a shit load of 3rd party 3D platformers a shitload of 3rd party 2D platformers, a bunch of 3D games some consider platformers like Ape Escape.

>Jak 2 is a bad game and always will be
It was a critical and commercial success at the time. Sure it has some problems but it's better than the sum of its parts, having a platformer that attempts to do so much is pretty crazy even if the individual parts could have been more polished.

Okay here's the good stuff
>story
>environments
>graphics
>plenty of fun platforming missions
>vehicle missions can be frustrating but most of them are alright once you learn vehicles are fragile
>ring races and stadium races are hard but you just have to practice
>certain missions are just hard and you need to play perfectly, it was a different time
>jet board is cool
>metal heads are cool
>krimzon guard are cool

The fact it's really hard and unfair sometimes doesn't make it bad. It's still ambitious and very frequently fun and satisfying to play. If you're not having a good time then save states would help create your own checkpoints.

Yes it does, because it's not "sometimes" it's 75% of the game.
I love Spyro 2 and I hate Rypto, he's a bad boss fight, but it doesn't ruin the game because it's only one part.
If I had to fight Ripto every other level then it would be a shit game.

I liked A Hat in Time, but it's a bad game and anyone who defends it is a retard.
You don't have to defend Jak 2.

We obviously just value different things in games. I think there's more than enough cool stuff in Jak 2 to make it a good game, even though I admit there's some bullshit missions. Saying more than 75% of the game is too hard or unfair does come across like you're just mad, because I really don't see it. We can agree on certain missions like protecting those guys in the sewer, the water slums escape, Erol ring races, and maybe the drill platform turret part being too hard. But even late game stuff like the weapons factory is generally fair and generous with checkpoints.

Excuse the expression, but it's because you've been huffing Jak's farts for so long that you can no longer realize it stinks.
>protecting those guys in the sewer, the water slums escape
I actually had no problem with these
>and maybe the drill platform turret part
Holy shit that was so painful I blocked it from my memory.
If you don't hit the flying cunts square center, they whizz off in a random direction and make the whole thing twice as hard.
>But even late game stuff like the weapons factory is generally fair and generous with checkpoints.
That's how bad most of the game is, I forget when the game is actually good for a while, because you immediately have to deal with bullshit like Krew right afterwards.

I tried to be respectful but it's very clear the game mad you mad. If you wanted to say it's not fun because of how frustrating it is, fine I get you. But to say it's a bad game because there's too many tough missions really just broadcasts that you found it too difficult.
