By the end I put it in story difficulty and just rushed and ignored enemies, and I barely engaged with the side content. This game has a serious length and pacing issue. It's focused on the narrative but questions linger for way too long because the game is so fucking long, and I just wanted to see how everything resolved.
The combat itself is fun for a few hours but not for how long the game wants you to engage with it. I get designing the systems to allow for player freedom, but at some point all the micromanaging becomes a nuisance.

Still GotY though. Writing, music, art, all top tier, specially the writing, but I don't feel like ever playing it again.

It's insane how fucking retarded lune becomes the further the story goes along. Garbage writing.

Shit taste, I did the opposite, I explored literally everything, when enemies became too easy because I overleveled I gave them 5x-10x or even 20x hp sometimes. Then I got 100% achievements as well.
Then I replayed the game again with the 2 party members I didnt use a lot in the first playthrough.

Its one of the best single player/storygames ever made.

Sometimes when Esquie flies, he says "Sun, here I come!" which seems to be reference to a Beatles song which didn't exist at the time in which the game is set.

The writing in this game is actually it's weakest feature IMO, I don't understand what people see in it.
The concept was nice but the execution left so much to be desired and I feel like they undercut every theme they had been building towards by the end of it.
But yeah it is still GOTY because someone finally got around to making engaging gameplay for a JRPG after SMRPG paved the way nearly 30 years ago.

Why set it to story? The ability you get for beating the Paintress IS the easy mode. I did one side dungeon after beating her before going to the final dungeon and I accidentally one-shot the final boss.

The story has been told millions of times, if you have not seen something similar as a grown adult you really need to expose yourself to more media.
The music is great but ths designs and setting mismatch and the gameplay is going backwards in jrpg evolution.
I really hope that FF doesn't take notes from this game.

I have deal with that petulant faggot Gustave for the first half of the game, listening to his content whining and woe is me drivel and his constant "muh Maelle." Seriously I could have swore he wanted to fuck her... Which is gross since they're essentially family, BUT it is France, sooooo.
Anyway.. when he died I thought good! I'm done with him. But oh no. I get that faggot Verso. At first I thought fuck yeah this dude stood toe to toe with the White Haired faggot and obviously was a badass... But noooooo the little bitch gets prison raped by shitmobs. No I want the whiny "I want to fuck my sister" Gustave back because he could at least fight.
And where are the maps? Why don't I have a fucking map for the area I am in. Nothing more fun than running around in circles trying to figure out where the FUCK TO GO.
Fucking French faggots

Pretty much how i feel

Got to act 3 on expert and im really tired of the combat and the idea of going through 15 more locations and doing exactly same combat encounter mechanics sounds extremely tiresome. 3niggas in a row doesnt hold up after 50 hours, even if its revitalize by parry/dodge

I think I'll just do the main story and shelf it, great game still

All RPGs are too fucking long, especially the "J" variety. At least white men RPGs have deep gameplay systems and an immersive sandbox, JRPGs stretch a 5-10 hour story into a 100+ hour slog, it's maddening. FF6 and 7 are overrated dogshit, for real.

The ending was probably the worst part for me.
It felt extremely forced like they wanted to do multiple endings just for the sake of it and made a really unnatural feeling conflict to try and sell it.
Would have been better if they just doubled down on the Verso ending and actually supported it more throughout the game.

Same

Funny thing is I can play Rogue Trader or Pathfinder or whatever for 100-200 hours without feeling tired (which have far inferior presentation), but a game like this does start dragging on after 30-40

It's worth rewatching the cinematics now that all of the big reveals have happened
In most JRPGs, in the early game the antagonists say cryptic shit that is basically meaningless, but in E33 the dialogue all makes sense
One of the biggest ones for me was before the Paintress battle, pRenoir says to Verso, "The pain of losing you - she made me inherit it"
That makes little sense unless you know what's really going on

All RPG stories have been told before. The difference is that E33 tells its story competently unlike tranime garbage like Metpahor Refantazio which constantly dart back and forth through convoluted substories instead of focusing on their main plot.

Verso and Monoco are all whisper whisper whisper during Monoco's introduction, particularly about Alicia.

And end of Act I when Renoir fails to force Maelle out of the canvas, Aline and Renoir talk about Maelle and how she shouldn't be in the painting, she's too weak, it doesn't involve her, etc.
Again, in the moment you're just like "Ok I don't understand, I'll just go along with it"
But each word makes sense once you have the full context

So yeah - I recommend finding a Youtube video of the cinematics since all the interactions get reframed once you know the full context.

it's pretty tame playtime for a JRPG
The pacing is weird for the first two acts because nothing makes sense without the exposition dump, it gets way better on a second playthrough.

It obvious when certain characters deliberately don't fully explain what's going on with them (Verso). And yes, I get the idea that you shouldn't dump an entire explanation right away, but it's parsed out and held off in such retarded way that normal people wouldn't do.
Oh yes, I do have a secrets, but I'm gonna wait till the next campfire cutscene to give another vague tidbit of information to pad out the narrative length of the game. wtf bro...
Most people would ask further questions instead of being content with a vague line and abruptly moving on. I mean these people are always self-aware they could die the next second.
