getting the Dark Soul to the paintress is the only good ending in the series, everything else is just loop-de-loops of shit other people (probably smarter) tried and failed to do for thousands of years.

The one you get when you marry Anri. I won't pretend I have a clue what's going on in DS3 lore/storywise but at least I got a wife out of it.

its a simple story of Entropy vs the human will to live, and the banality and ego of attempting the same shit everyone else has done to "beat" or "cheat" the world.

Dark Souls 3 hammers that shit home into your fucking skull, the DLC ending with Gael even more so, as him hunting down the Darksoul knowing he's going to die so it can be used to paint a better world he'll never see, is the one way to "win", because its from a purely selfless sacrifice

Linking the fire means another Dark Souls game. Letting the flame die allows another franchise to take its place. The doomed world at the end of time is what happens when Fromsoft keeps making the same game over and over again. Let Dark Souls go and one day another amazing game will repeat the cycle.

Fire will return, as is the natural order, but it will be an age unmired by the weight of Gwyn's sins against nature.
Coincidentally, the Painter subplot in the DLC is literally a microcosm of the plot of Dark Souls 3, just with the roles reversed (Fire as a cleansing force, much like Dark, instead of a representation of stagnation).
End of Fire is the good ending and a perfect send off to the trilogy.

It's the actual finalization of a prophecy started in New Londo in the first game, of a Lord capable to tame and seal the Fire for humanity instead of losing control and being corrupted by the Dark.

There's nothing evil about it, you simply trascend humanity thanks to the self sacrifice of countless pilgrim followers that dedicate their own sacrifice in the form of curse coalescing into sigils.

It's the tale of Prometheus taking the Fire fron the Gods, but with his own moral revenge by turning their chains into a binding communion.

If the Painted World is symbolic of the greater conflict in DaS3, then Friede is meant to show the folly of the Lord of Hollows ending. Her coming in and strong arming control over the Painted World, despite her claims, does nothing to resolve the actual problem. It's no coincidence that her death and the dissolution of the current painted world is the only path to actually saving it.
