Understandable, while it was challenging solo at times, I didn't quite like that either. The second one rarely has bosses summon adds, you might like it better.

Does anybody know if 2 keeps the scaling system from the first? The way it worked was that each new zone you enter gets scaled up so if you spent all your upgrade materials in one zone, you'd kinda be boned for the next. I had to always make sure that my gear rating or whatever it was called was appropriate for the zone but not higher than that

In the tutorial you tag along with a woman I can't remember the name of who later becomes a completely irrelevant shopkeeper and at some point she's talking about rumours of Ford running a safe haven, specifically in the context of the Root having overtaken earth almost entirely. She says something to the extent of "an old white dude running a sanctuary with plenty of supplies? Next you'll tell me Santa Claus is real"
There's obviously some level of corporate influence consider that bewildering tutorial exists, but if that's all it took to be woke then there would be zero non-indie games that aren't.

Played through the entire campaign (+story DLC) co-op with 2 buddies.

After clearing the full game I still hadn't found a sniper rifle other than the one I had started the game with. I played through the entire game with the same weapon because there was no other one.

This game is gay as fuck compared to the first. Good luck finding anything, every item is locked behind some "secret" shit you have to spend half a day figuring out. Navigation is also a fucking chore. While the first game had a couple optional areas or out of the way places to explore, everything in Remnant 2 is so fucking spread out and impossible to navigate. This game is inferior to the first in every possible way

It's pretty much better in every way except for a few things (keep in mind I just played the game near launch so some of this stuff may have been patched).
1. There' way more pieces of equipment to pick up but also a lot of it feels nearly useless and there's a few overpowered items that you'll equip with most builds. Meanwhile I felt like most of the equipment in Remnant 1 had at least some use, even if it was niche.
2. The game is really stingy with upgrade resources so you ended up getting stuck with the same one or two weapons for most of the first playthrough.
3. Devs went overboard with the secrets and I'd say a good 25% of the stuff in the game falls into the "look it up on the internet or you'll never find it" category.
4. The game still uses the same retarded scaling system as the first one but it's actually even a bit worse now since the classes which level up automatically also contribute to it.

Early into the game this is still true, but later you get showered by upgrades.
Ideally you choose one weapon from starting area to be your main for a while, and if you get something new that you're interested in at least you should wait at least until the third area before seriously upgrading it.
That or just do the adventure mode to gather materials (and also do alternate paths)

The level design, area variety and voice acting is pretty much the only things I can think of. 1 had more area types and the areas themselves had more traversal options, for example compare Root Earth to the first level of one with all the apartment buildings. And the player voice is way worse in 2. I can still remember the call outs from the first game.

I like both Remnants but I hate the utter bullshit scaling.
It feels like upgrading everything is a trap and you just become weaker and weaker.
There was never a moment where I would feel far stronger than before upgrades, blasting through enemies and bosses, as they just scaled with me. IIRC, bosses such as picrel took anywhere between 20 to 30 fucking minutes with an optimized character. Everything becomes way too spongey. The bosses can almost 1 shot you and your bullets barely tickle them, the fights become war of attrition, a test of your patience and dodging skills.
I played both games on hardcore, and every single death I ever experienced was because of bugs and jank, I remember listing everything in a ranty steam review.

But damn, do they feel good to play, especially 2. The sense of discovery is incredible, every new weapon, skill and piece of equipment you find are a treat and there's tons of secrets and alternate ways to do bosses and puzzles for different rewards.

the biggest problem with 2 is that they basically ruined the entire new game+ system that the first game had by trying to force limited skillpoint builds instead of constant progression. the class system is also awful but just playing through the base game to the end is still good

The scaling is shit, but not because it's unbalanced. It is terrible because it doesn't really do anything, whether you're at 1 or 20 the game feels about the same. Honestly I think weapon upgrade systems like this one and Dark Souls are just poorly designed, they don't add anything of value unlike the other aspects of character building.
Also that guy shouldn't have been spongey.

It actually does do something, which is making every gun besides the one you're upgrading weaker. The only reason the weapon upgrades are a thing is that they needed something to fill the levels with for you to pick up.

I remember having a pretty much maxed out character and was hit with the skill point bug and I reset them to try and fix it and they made a post to not reset the skill points like an hour later. I haven't played since then because essentially 50 hours of game play went down the drain. I even got that one class that required a bunch of bull shit to figure out.

2 is really really good. The bosses all feel much more unique and don't just spam ads at you the whole game. Weapon variety is great and the world design in the Fey Kingdom/Yarnham is awesome and most of the non-overworld parts of the Space land and the Aztec Jungle world are good too (but the overworld for both is kind of lame).
Classes feel nice to mix and match and the grind isn't that bad.
The woke/dei garbage is gone after the first hour of the game. It starts off looking that way and then completely ignores everything that it sets up in the first tutorial area. I genuinely don't understand how >>714812170 can sink almost 100 hours into the game and believe that anything after the tutorial is woke.

It's minor but I really like the exploration and how it rewards that. It's rare to have good secrets in something that is procedurally generated but it almost always felt organic and satisfying to find.

My only major complaints is that the upgrade system is annoying and requires a lot of grinding to build a new weapon up to what you were probably already using; and especially the abnormal red-glowing enemies or whatever that only show up rarely and you need to farm to get modified/unique weapons.
Also, as I mentioned, the overworld sections in 2 of the 3 biomes are kind of lame.

I was talking about the scaling. As in the bosses don't get spongier as you upgrade, so long as you're roughly the same level as each other it'll feel about the same. I don't like the system personally and I wish games dropped the idea entirely because it adds nothing of note, but people used to always claim that upgrading makes the enemies OP while your damage/survivability plateaus which isn't true.

It could be that he felt spongey because his moveset has a bunch of phases and he backs away from the platform often, but I don't see how his health bar itself would feel massive. Unless he's your first major boss at least, but you described it like he was much later in your run.

You'll unlock maybe 1 class in 50 hours if you don't look up things on the wiki, there are absolute batshit insane unlock methods for most of them, like walking through the right area of poison gas on the map barrier with no visual indicators or in-game hints, and picking up an item half a second before the gas kills you.

The starter classes aren't that bad since its mostly just buying the engrams from the vendors around town and there is one you get by just beating the game but yeah some of them are just layered in WTF. Like you have the simple ones like GS and summoner but then you have shit like invader and engineer and then the one people had to datamine to figure out(which did seem intended) archon. Some of them at least you just need to explore good but alchemist and invoker necessitating death is just silly

Yea, last boss is fucking awful, but the game is about replaying everything before that, not just rushing to the credits. There is a lot of really obtuse secrets which I actually appreciate, theres whole classes that are hidden and you wont see everything on one run of a any map. Good AA game, we need more games in this bracket.

Has surprisingly good boss music.

There's different tiers of secrets
Some of the secrets are "wait a minute, that card..." level and some are intended to be super obscure or not unlocked without multiple runs, but the ones like Archon and the glitchy gun in the interim area are not solvable at all without data mining. Engineer was likely intended as a "NG+" class you find with Explorer, and Invoker could I guess be noticed by the weird patches of sand and your character sinking a little eventually while you were trying stuff (though I would never have found it).

enjoyed remnant 1 and got nearly all the items and eventually just started playing that mode where you start from nothing and work your way up but I always waited for randoms to join (no irl friends play). That was maybe 3-4 months ago and the wait times for that mode became too much because no one was playing. Seems like people like 2 so maybe if it goes on sale ill pick it up

He's easy if you turn the music off. All the attacks have very obvious audio ques.

Great games with cool exploration. I also actually enjoyed their very the Dark Tower-ish worldbuilding and am thinking I'll pick up the fantasy prequel due to this:

My only issue with this game is how esoteric they made most the classes. I don't like to look up guides in soulslikes, but here its mandatory.

Something about 2 was just off. The first one I actually played enough to platinum and then 2 was just shit and played it only for a couple hours and had no urge to keep playing

It isn't just audio cues. Everything he does is telegraphed, that's the gimmick of the third phase. You get two phases to learn all of his attacks and combos, then the final phase has you rapidly switching back and forth between them.
>"boss 1" attacks for a bit and then freezes mid attack combo
>the game then immediately switches you over to the other boss arena
>"boss 2" will then also attack for a bit before also freezing mid combo
>next it'll shift you back to the original "boss 1" fight and resume that same exact combo it ended on before
>he freezes mid combo again, then it switches to "boss 2"
And so on. It's one of the coolest boss gimmicks I've ever seen, you're basically fighting two different bosses in tandem.

I think with all the stuff they added apoc hardcore isn't that bad anymore but I doubt I'd do it still. Beat apoc a few times but never deathless despite having most of my gear already
