Same strategy that all AAA devs always use on all their investors. >Our new game is gonna make you a billion dollars, and all we have to do is copy (successful thing), just trust me, bro.
Lol.
>>714813176 >does EA still think it's 2016?
EA is completely run by boomer investors who have no direct interests in vidya. All they look at are quarterly reports of other succesful companies and ask themselves how they can emulate that.
>>714812995 (OP)
If you want the true answer.
The market research is outsourced to contractors. And their intention is to get the most money for minimum effort.
They lie to these publishers that the market is still hot, because they show all of these statistics that they just made up.
Basically it's a dog eat dog world. And everyone is trying to scam the other
>successful company does X (where X can be anything the boomer in charge makes out to be the thing that makes the company successful) >therefore, if we do X, we will increase value for our shareholders because X is the reason the other company works so well!
>>714813332 >how does EA make money from battlefield?
have you watched any gameplay of 2042? that game must have cost no more than $20 million to make, so with a cost basis that low it's easy to make a profit
>>714813332
They market it heavily and bank on week 1 sales. Even though their recent games have been awful they sell on fake hype alone and that's enough to get them across the line, hell they put the game on sale for $25 a month after launch.
One thing you may have seen recently is the sales on BF5 and 1 where it's only a few bucks, they do this to get people talking about the series and allow apologists to spread the word that these years old shit games are actually good (they aren't).
>>714813490 >And everyone is trying to scam the other
This is a trend that needs to fucking die sooner rather than later. No one is producing anything of value anymore; the clothing companies make jeabs that gets destroyed after a couple of washes, the tech companies make electronics with planned defects, publishers make pull the plugg on older games in order to push the consoomer towards their new product...
Planned obsolescence has become the norm and it's incredibly gay.

is not just EA, trooncord was made with the same retarded mindset, starting development in 2016, same year when Overwatch was released and the fotm was Guardians of the Galaxy
Realistically there is nothing wrong with having a BR mode in your current year FPS game, the real problem is DICE not knowing how to design a game while putting in the bare minimal effort required.
>>714813297
I can't think of a single live service game released recently that was easy to develop and had huge returns, even when they're not DoA player numbers dwindle and after a few months it's game over. With the exception of Gachas and even these are now operating in a hyper competitive environment and need high production values. The safe low risk high reward thing to do is remakes in a popular IP.
>>714813923
The issue is that it can't be the main course. I agree that a BR can be a fun addition, but you need to have a core Battlefield experiens (TDM, conquest, capture the flag).
>>714813987
Battlebit showed, if even for a split second, that if you make a game properly people will throw money at you for it. A roblox looking $15 shit indie game made by a team of 3 managed to be more enjoyable and have more and better functioning mechanics than a series made by a multi billion dollar company.
>>714814202 >Battlebit
I'm still forever mad that the devs just took the money and left a goldmine just sitting there. It's peak battlefield gameplay but the cheating is ruining most matches.
>>714813987
This reminds me of one GaaS title that bought out a bunch of streamers for a considerable amount of time, organized and did stream events between them, that shit was plastered on twitch's front page then disappeared. Game was literally dead right because people would rather watch instead of playing it and got sunset barely a year after launch, I think it was Omega Strikers.
>>714813730
The real real issue is that they assume X existing in any form is the success ingredient, and not all the hard work that went into making X appealing. Fortnite didn't succeed because it was a battle royale, it succeeded because it had an absolutely insane content mill of shit coming out near constantly.
Conquest and rush just aren't that marketable I guess. If they're gonna do BR, why not jump the playercount to something impressive like 256 and do some cool asymetric shit with squads like They have an incentive to kill you near the end and you the same or a player that is not on the ground but in a commander role just fucking with people and setting fake supply drops and messing with the weather over shootouts. Oh and bring back mechs if you're keeping the future theme.
>>714813987
didn't sony have like 14 GaaS games in development and like 13 of them were cancelled or released and flopped (concord)? plus their $3,700,000,000 purchase of Bungie looks like a big miss
>>714814510
It's a shame, for the first time we had a true battlefield style FPS game and the devs decided to disappear instead of push and keep the momentum going. I'm not sure how true it is but I heard they were upset that people enjoyed it more as a BF game and wanted the milsim elements toned down further.
>>714815568 >Be nip company >Work-culture built around exploiting employees
It's almost like having to pay less money to your workers affects the bottom line...who would have thunk?!
>>714813910 >trooncord was made with the same retarded mindset, starting development in 2016
8 years for like 3 maps and 8 chars how are they so good at grifting
>>714815025
Fortnite's success was initially an accident, they had a weird Minecraft with Guns project in development hell and decided to throw a BR mode on top and that took over with streamers. These fuckers think you can engineer the next Fortnite game that will turn into a cultural phenomenon in focus group tests and corporate meetings.
>>714817526
It wasn't an accident, their original game failed and was sitting in the trash can when PUBG released and they had the unfortunate idea to turn it into a battle royale. They yoinked it out, redesigned it, and the world is left to deal with the consequences.
>>714813910
Anon "trooncord" means Discord, the fucking app, I just spent 5 minutes trying to understand what the fuck you meant by that lmao >what does Discord have to do with EA????
>>714818152
unrelated, but people really need to start speaking normal again, i am sick of trying to guess what the fuck their are saying in their autistic internet lingo
