He's not wrong. Switch 2 being weaker than the fucking deck 1 is insanity. Nintendo used to be a great value, now they're as bad as Apple.

Nintendo has ALWAYS used older tech in their systems. They also never sold their consoles at a loss because they can't afford to. So, to keep costs DOWN, they use old, well-understood parts. If they went with top of the line stuff, their next console would most likely cost closer to 1k than not.

And yet they could have just bought the deck BOMs from Valve for cheaper than the development cost of the switch 2, modified it, and had a superior system to what the switch 2 actually was at a fraction of the cost.

You're really telling me that Valve, which can't sell four million Steam Decks in 5 years is gonna keep up with Nintendo's demands? Not gonna happen. Plus, it's better for Nintendo to make their own hardware than to outsource, for the simple fact that they know everything about the system they spent R&D money on.

There's 7 months until the anniversary but I doubt you'll see something like the OLED out or even announced before then. Maybe a hardware revision to increase reliability but I don't think you'll see anything that fixes the abysmal screen ghosting until then.

People who bought the switch 2 on release are morons, though. There's nothing worth playing on it and won't be for a while. There's plenty of stuff to play instead of getting FOMOed into mario kart world or donkey kong open world sloppa. It has no killer app like Splatoon 3, MK8, odyssey, or botw yet.

You might see a solid state battery (these batteries are already in samsung internal testing right now) model in a few years. But right now those are exclusive to companies with close ties with Samsung and are generally extremely expensive until prices get driven down. But the first company to release a handheld that takes advantage of solid state batteries will blow the fuck out of anyone else unless the software is absolutely terrible.

Valve does not care about mass producing hardware and their HW is more novelty/luxury items than anything else. The waitlists for the valve index or deck were incredibly long because they were low production runs.
