nah unless its an actual medical issue they'll usually leave it until adulthood, then once they're fully grown they can get it chopped off if they want like if its actually a useless digit.
with hands though usually 6-fingered people it works just fine so they just roll with it. You'd be surprised how many people dont even notice.

I had a 3-fingered coworker once and a friend who was missing a finger on one hand and in both cases no-one noticed for days/weeks/months
