Then the naughtiest things he does is copy some files from Sae and make friends with a former Yakuza that's selling fake guns that look a little more accurate than normal.
In all other regards he's a goody-two-shoes.

There's an entire new addition to the main story involving the new School Counselor, and the redhead waifu girl, and it's mixed into the regular story from 5
So it's just a lot of extra scenes and dialogue, in a game that was already insanely long and dialogue heavy

all its worst offenses boil down to the characters and overall writing being insultingly shallow, but the other games get away with it because they try their best to not let that leak into the main cast. 5 fails in that regard. with royal the best parts of the game are the bookends, kamoshida arc and maruki arc. i literally played all of royal again just for third semester because i didnt have a save at the start of the new year.
though the impact of its ending rivals that of 3, if not for what i already said it would be the best persona ending. actually it would probably be the best persona game

Dragged out ending that lost its own message for the sake of pointless gnostic symbolism.
The entire story worked perfectly when the Treasure of humanity was the Holy Grail, and Sloth was the supreme sin of man.
Having the Holy Grail unfold into Yaldabaoth is nonsense. Man did not make the Demiurge. Man does not long for the Demiurge. The Demiurge making a world of bone towers and blood rain does not gratify the great hunger for Sloth. "And here's Satan with the fucking six shooter" just muddles the message. Why is there a seven sins bullet when we are trying to combat the avatara of Sloth Itself? Sin is not our friend. God is not our enemy.
The Holy Grail was the perfect symbolism. It is the concept of an easy solution, of a miracle, of letting someone else solve all your problems. Yaldabaoth does not fit this mold. It's ugly how far they went to hammer in the idea of "rebellion means LUCIFER" imagery at the last moment. Inelegant. Disgraceful.
All in all Persona 5 went on for about 20 hours too long. The last delve into Mementos to face the Holy Grail should've been the way the story wrapped up, just add a bit more flair to it and cut the final sequence completely.

Not perceived righteousness, not society's perception of goodness and/or correctness (which would be the appropriate imagery for Yaldabaoth), but the indolence and inability of humanity, the lack of will to resist evil.

I like p5 a lot, and it's stylish is hell and well designed, and the soundtrack is top teir.
I don't think it's as thematically cohesive as 3 and 4 are. P3, which invented modern persona had the Memento Mori theme. Remember your own mortality, you are set to die at the end. You have a limited amount of time left, and the ticking calender, chossimh how you spend each day, and having to make a choice, the gameplay and theme are cohesive. Then P4 really explored personas, what shadows are, and Jung psychology, all tied directly to the chatacters.
