If you look at data gathered by data centers this isn't even a cherry picked coincidence. WD drives fail considerably less often and Seagate is consistently unreliable, based on huge datasets.

I got a barracuda a few years back and it fucking died within 2-3 years? I doubt it made it the third year. At some point I just disconnected it because of the weird noise it was making and loading a game from it took 20 minutes and like 30 seconds from my cheap 20€ SSD. Then I tossed both and got 2 Samsung 970 evos and now I have a new pc with a 2 TB m.2 990 pro

Tldr never buy especially barracudas and hard drives in general if you can avoid it

I got an 8TB one of these and while it's nice to have the extra storage these SMR drives are huge pieces of shit. It takes so long to mount that it times out on boot so i have to do it manually. Try and sort a 200K file folder by type and get ready to wait ten minutes for the right click menu to even come up

For the average goy use, Barracudas work just fine but buying a 24TB Barracuda drive is beyond retarded because they are the bottom of quality control, hense the price. Anyone who really needs that kind of storage should invest a little more.

Unless you need a lot of space because you do a lot of production work, you really don't need more than a 2-3tb m.2 drive. Speed is way more important than space. Space just encourages clutter because why the fuck do you care about having 50 games installed that you will never play again, or a folder full of 100gb of random trash, when that doesn't even make up 5% of your total space?

You can copy stuff on HDD, leave it in external docking station, cover from dust and forget about and after few months plug it again and get everything you want back. Yeah, production work. I have external drives from 2010 full of home videos, pictures and old documents. But i was talking about a drive that you have in your PC for daily access. And a 2-3tb m.2 is perfectly fine for that.
