Do you have to be underage or a manchild to see the appeal in these games?

I've never seen them brought up by a serious or respectable person, every time someone praises them they come across as one of *those* types of fandom

The fandom is full of children, creeps, and mental illness, but the games themselves are fun. each enemy having different bullet hell patterns makes the fights interesting and the music is good.

I was surprised that I couldn't get into Undertale. I read Homestuck when it was new and was already a fan of Toby's music when this game came out.
Doesn't seem like a bad game by any stretch, but I just wasn't having much fun playing it. It's especially weird that I didn't like this game despite already liking Homestuck, JRPGs and SHMUPs.
