being hit with a red shell is punishment for not carrying a shield of some sort.

you don't go into first for extended periods without the appropriate defensive items. you either have a mushroom or horn or you die. the other play is to bide your time and steal the first place just before the race ends, minimizing the risk of getting shot down. mario kart is a game of strategy, always has been, regardless of what fools who mindlessly hold A say.
these "people" will hold A a few times, have no control over what happens, claim they had "fun" and then they drop the game forever because it's not actually interesting. worthless.

Specifically a mushroom. You'd think the food would work, which would give a great tactical advantage to all those food stands on the open roads, but what actually happens is the mushroom grants i-frames that the food does not and that's what allows you to avoid the blue shell.

It's simple
We take the lightning bolt item
And we move it from last place to 3rd place
The lightning bolt does absolutely fuck all to help the ones in the back.

Lightning has been essential to every game it's been in, and is easily one of the items that takes the highest amount of strategy from both the user and the other racers to deal with.

I have tried 150cc knockout tour moon rally probably 15 times and no matter if I hang in the back or shoot for the front, I am passed or hit on the very final turn and end up in 3rd or 4th place EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Game is dogshit

The reason I didn't enjoy myself the 40 minutes I played it was because every race felt like that awful baby 8 laps mini map from 8. I got shot down almost non stop every race
