They dropped the ball big-time. They tried making the sequel bigger and better and even more advanced and failed. Simple as that.

It ran at 15 fps on an empty map.
Individual people each had like 10k polygons.
No mod support.
No real design changes compared to CS1 (it's all still car centric American city building with very little thought for any alternatives or futures).
The growable buildings mostly looked like shit.

You can't make a citybuilder with a general purpose engine like shitinity, or if you do you better have some hardcore engine guys in your team.

How the FUCK do they still not have an asset editor?

Studio lied about almost everything. Underlying simulation is faked so it can't be played as a strategy/tycoon game. There's shockingly few assets and it's annoying to sculpt so it fails as a city painter. Runs like fucking trash, and years later somehow still doesn't have the asset editor that was supposed to be ready at launch

This games a disaster in nearly every aspect outside of the road tool, and still you have dipshit sycophants defending it on the basis of 'small dev team' as though that was a forced constraint rather than a choice

I don't think paradox or co gives a shit.
It's definitely abandonware, or close to it.

The really great thing about it is your ability to use hundreds of mods to make complex and super detailed dioramas of cities, so if you have this particular autism, you'll probably enjoy it. The game itself is okay, fun in some areas, but a bit flawed in others.

It's easier to get mods up and running compared to SC4 and is generally more compatible with modern systems.
If you can pirate all the DLC you do get a lot of nice build paths and alternative transportation modes. It's pretty fun.
CS1 is more of a "painter" compared to SC games as money is really really easy to make. So you end up being able to do whatever you want.

you definitely can, you just need to use https://unity.com/ecs
this shit lets you have a billion game objects on screen, it's relatively newish though.

released way to early, still so buggy, they are still rebuilding data systems, many achievements just don't work, new content patch half released too early and broken

I dropped Western city games as soon as I discovered A-Train. I love the autism magnetism that trains have. It's one of those things that I never stop finding funny. I mean, I'm not very experienced with Cities Skylines, but I don't think it gives as much room for autism manifestation as A-Train 9, here's an example:

The last time I played it, they didn't even fix the traffic AI, which was their biggest selling point. They just gave you more tools for road building. However, cars would still decide to turn on most internal roads only at the node before the intersection, which was the reason why traffic in this game is not possible to manage unless you edit every single node of every single road in your city.

It's just what all expansion based games have to suffer through when starting from step one.
The only reason it worked in the past is because technology was advancing at a rate where a new game would be a huge leap even if it lacked 90% of the content of the old one.

Wasn't that the game made by incompetent retards that used fully modeled flipped assets for a game that would render tens of thousands of NPCs at the same time, ending up hogging all the GPU resources to render even the teeth for the humans who roamed your city? And after all that, they deflected all the criticism with the good ol "just upgrade your rig bro" and "runs on my machine bro" arguments and didn't bother trying to fix it because this mess was unfixable.

It's slightly better than CS1s traffic AI at least, where they'll overtake traffic stacking for an exit

I think CS2 is doomed now. Nobody is buying Colossals expac because the core game is still fucked sideways, and Paradox has a very small amount of patience for games that can't print money like Stellaris. They're bailing water by shamelessly releasing DLC for Skylines 1, but I'll not be surprised when they get shuttered soon.
