British voice actors in games sound great to me, but the occasional American ones sound bad. What's happening there?

American VAs are mostly talentless hacks who are more obsessed with unions than being good at their jobs.

a lot of brit VAs are mediocre, but they get a pass because they serve a generic accent.
you notice this a lot with B-tier JRPGs where they're clearly phoning it in.
Posh and cockney especially can just speak and it doesn't really matter if they're trying.

A number of bong VAs in vidya are classically trained and do the typical RSC theatre and Radio 4 circuit, so it sounds disproportionately competent. Presumably for them vidya is just another gig since theatre and radio pays like shit anyway.
