But yeah, she's better in the main game.

she's built for instant loss
>>714889680>>714890045desu a big part of her character even in the original is that SHODAN is delusional and in over her head. >>714913813It wasn't. That's the tranny propaganda. The trans AI theory is disproven twice in the first five minutes of the game. She speaks with a female voice in her pre-hacked form in the intro and once in an audio log in her pre-hacked form in the healing suites. >>714898198Nightwalker is of smaller scope than Ponterbee, it's more linear and it still has the problems that Ponterbee has, like exotic and research basically being non-existent. Polaris still has those problems to a degree but it the mapwork is excellent and it's cool to see an SS2 project that doesn't take place in space. The only other big scale SS2 FM is return to the UNN, it's pretty good but it's solidly below Christine's FMs in terms of quality. I would probably like it more if it took place in the city the whole time but it's a bait and switch sadly and the latter half of the game is in a really poorly mapped out ship.
>>714898497It's genuinely an autistic commitment to try and learn ShockEd, DromEd I imagine is a difficult enough editor to learn but since SS2 is an RPG you need to design opportunities for the RPG systems to come into play, set up enemy spawns and paths, door keycodes, and ideally you want to do custom logs as well, AI Voices are pretty good for this but you would still want custom portraits too ideally like how Ponterbee does. I've tried a bunch of times over the years to make an SS2 FM but it's just a lot of work and my autistic brain will burn out after a couple of weeks, and when I want to come back and pick it up again I've forgotten how tf to do certain things. I don't even really have the time anymore to try unfortunately. I really wish I could just get myself to get to work on one of these and bring it to life.
>>714933129Honestly, I could live with no voiced logs. Both Thief and SS2 FMs have absolutely horrible voice acting most of the time.

Anyone remember that one anon who modded the Sims to have SHODAN as one of his neighbours?
>>714937130This is also very funny because over 10 years later the remaster has the controls this dev recommended by default anyway. It really is an improvement, shame about the lack of EAX audio, I miss hearing enemies echoing from the distance, but that's all this remaster has fucked up so far.
>>714951854>but that's all this remaster has fucked up so far.>he doesn't know
>>714892447Maybe for the better.
I wanted an actual sequel where SHODAN uses her new body to good use in her pursuit of godhood instead of some weirdass interquel with probably some logic-defying explanation.

I have to admit, I was filtered at first, but once you get a few hours in it starts to click and you get into the games flow. The whole menu/action split feels weird at first but once you learn the hotkeys you can jump around it so fast and get straight back into the gameplay, which you're encouraged to do since it doesn't stop time. I've physically jumped more than once getting backstabbed by a mutant while fiddling around in my inventory, it's fantastic design to make you learn.

I like both the original and the remake. It was just different enough to make it a fun and interesting alternative version to play without replacing the original entirely. Would be nice if UU1&2 got the same treatment.
>>714959686Also remove mechanics like mantling, earlier augmentation, and removal a weapons besides the pacifist guns. This isn't including the nerfed traps. Imagine having less content than a game released on floppy.
The groves are one of the worst redesigns. It particularly highlights the remake has less vertically than the original.
>>714959442>casualized remakeWhere does this even come from? A salt the fries run on remake will absolutely fuck you up over an original salt the fries. You can't abuse lean in the remake like the original to completely avoid damage
>>714959545SHODANs entire Earth repopulation plan is flawed though. In one of the audio logs she complains about the virus mutating only 47% of people and they turn into degenerate zombies. But because of her megalomania she thinks the problem is the spaceship crews inferior genes and bringing the virus to Earth would eventually breed the new better species. Which it won't, because the virus a biological weapon from the start.
System Shock 2 shows the best result the virus could've created and SHODAN was still not happy.

>removal a weapons besides the pacifist gunsONE laser weapon which literally have the same effect as other ones in the game. And of course you fail to mention they added two modifications to all ranged weapons in the game to compensate for that. Original didn't have those
>the nerfed trapsWhich ones? If anything they increased the traps. There's the new replicator grenade trap
>Imagine having less content than a game released on floppy.Just a complete lie. Floppy version didn't even have voices for the audio logs just text

>>714959990>Less dense enemy populationThey reduced the cyborg drones in the trap on medical because it was completely fucking ridiculous and even the original developers admitted it. Everything else is the same. Sometimes during respawns you'll have over 10 enemies fighting you at once.
>vending machinesSuch a retarded argument. You can farm the respawning mutants in the original for med patches and waltz through the game with 99 of them, overcoming virtually anything. It's like Demon's Souls and its grass abuse. The vending machines at least have limited supplies of everything
I'm interestes in playing this game?
Should I play the OG, the Enhanced Edition or the remake?
I have heard the remake is good, but I don't usually trust remakefags.
>>714960594play enhanced first but downgrade to the previous patch so it doesn't stutter
OG has no mouselook unless you mod it
if you like enhanced then play the remake
>>714959925This. She was a glorified OS on Citadel Station and removing her moral constraints did not increase her INT in the slightest. SHODAN is that one retard who thinks she could run the whole company perfectly if only she wasn't stuck in a middle manager's job.
No matter how much evidence she receives showing how unworkable her plans are, she'll blame something else every single time. Once you notice this, she goes from horrifying to a more understandable villain. She's just a narcissist with a speech impediment at the end of the day.
>>714888758I don't like femdom, but I like evil women.
>>714960594Depends on how well you deal with REALLY dated controls and shit. I love original System Shock bit I would NEVER recommend a normie to play it. A normie could play something like OG Doom just fine but System Shock is really overwhelming, the controls and UI are so strange and convoluted. If you get used to it, it is an amazing game though, and there are significant things it does better than the remake (most noticably the music which was completely gutted in the remake). But the remake is also great and you'll just be able to pick it up and start playing like any other game
>>714960338>>mechanics like mantlingPlenty useful in level 4 besides other uses. Such as the platforming to reach the plastique. A remake having less content than a game on floppy
>>earlier augmentationJumpjets are limited to a late game upgrade of the rocketskates. They were a separate augmentation that you got earlier. A remake having less content than a game on floppy.
>removal a weapons besides the pacifist gunsRemoved the stun gun, the riot gun, the multiple grenade types, the flechette, and dart gun. The weapon mods are nothing I'm supposed to replace my weapons as I progress. This isn't RE4 or Deadspace. There's no point in keeping a starting weapon since the upgrade isn't significant enough. The new grenade launcher fulfills the same function the original did, but less variety. And the shotgun falls off faster than the flechette.
>>the nerfed trapsShodan's plastique trap has no danger and completely misses the point of the original puzzle. The elevator trap during the self-destruct barely has enemies to block your progress.
>>Imagine having less content than a game released on floppy. And the remake is missing music. Also all the weapons it cut and minigames.
>>It particularly highlights the remake has less vertically than the original.Hacker is slower, can't mantle, and won't have the jumpjets at the point in the remake. Original Hacker does and can. He can explore the level less restiricted
>>714960517I won't comment on the vending machines because I don't recall drops in the remake. But the medical drone trap? After you blow up the CPUs? Really? That's such a simple trap that I have a feeling you're mistaking it with something else
I've always loved the amount of irony in SS2:
>SHODAN was made by humans and turned on them
>She makes the Many, who turn on her and she can't understand why this happened.
>She's all powerful in the first game
>She's reduced to screaming in some humans ear to do her work for her in 2
>She makes Goggles the perfect killing machine throughout 2
>Is baffled how he easily beats her in her short betrayal at the end
>>714960594The remake is a fine way to experience the story of the first game. It does some things better and some things worse. It's really not clear cut at all on which is superior imo but the original version's Enhanced Edition probably edges it out for me.
It added like a grand total of 3 ESG elements which are all relatively minor compared to something like the Dead Rising remake which was censored and sanitized to shit. If that's what you care about just play the original.
>>714960967>ends the game being transferred to a human body
>>714960967Needs ICE-Pick correction.
>>714954720I hate that they didn't do Shodan taking over your screen in the remake
>>714960594I'm being overtly negative for the sake of discussion, but the remake is a decent game in itself. However, it could seem lackluster after the original.
You should at least play the enhanced edition first. I will be overtly negative again and call Nightdive faggots for bumping up the price after they got shills to talk about it leading up to the remake. The original is fine if you aren't too retarded for ASDX
I'm a ways into this game. It's time I give this a review.
Having never played SS2 before, I always imagined it a harder, more sophisticated, better game than it really is. Half-Life 1 is a superior game and what sets it above SS2 is the designs. SS2 has a great weak spot in terms of the design, both game design and visual design. The levels are a mess and so are the enemies, with gameplay designed around tedium yet without real challenge. The hybrids look goofy compared to the likes of the Half-Life zombies, and you're fighting worms, monkeys, spiders, eggs ripped off directly from Alien, the rumblers which are just uglier versions of Quake's shamblers, funny looking clunky robots and random ninja dudes in spandex. There is no consistency, there is no unified idea and no philosophy behind it. It's not immersive, its not scary, and the only tension comes from resource management which only comes from running around cluttered and labyrinthine maps looking for ways to progress, while enemies endlessly respawn around you. The only thing of note is SHODAN, who is basically just a warbled voice and an animated gif, but even so, much less prominent in this game than I anticipated.
I think everything in this game could have been better if they just had a better design department to create creatures, enemies and levels that were actually compelling setpieces and created a game with a decent flow to it. Honestly rather than deserving of the title of PC gaming classics along with Deus Ex and Half-Life 1, SS2 is more equal to Gunman Chronicles, a mess of a game that nonetheless has enough qualities to warrant a full playthrough.
>>714961420>Half-Life 1 is a superior game.>The levels are a mess and so are the enemies, with gameplay designed around tedium yet without real challenge.Holy reddit copypasta.
>>714961420>Half-Life 1 is a superior game>eggs ripped off directly from Alien,
>>714961420I get the complaints about the ninjas and the monkeys, they were kind of silly I guess. But aside from that there definitely is consistency with the enemy types, and there's lore explaining all the stages of the annelids in the game (worms go in human's head > hybrid > hybrid mutates into rumbler > rumbler mutates into flying tentacke brain thingies), and the ship AI was hacked which is why all the robots come after you.
The levels are mazelike on purpose and they're supposed to feel like real places where real people worked and lived, it isn't a shooter like Half-Life or Quake, it's a dungeon crawler RPG.
I do agree that the game is quite easy if you aren't retarded. I'm playing on hard right now and I wipe my ass with everything the game throws at me, but then again I'm so succesful because I'm playing carefully and tactically. Maybe try to up the difficulty bro
>>714960943>Such as the platforming to reach the plastiqueDoesn't require mantling at all
>Jumpjets are limited to a late game upgrade of the rocketskates. They were a separate augmentation that you got earlier. They literally just combined it in the remake. You hold shift to run fast and hold space to hover. What is the problem with that? Using one less activation button is a content reduction in your opinion?
>the multiple grenade typesThere's like a total of 10 of the other grenade types in the entire game and they do the same thing as the frag grenade. The real legitimate loss is that timers were removed
>the flechetteTurned into a shotgun. You already had a machinegun, why did you need another?
>stun gun, the riot gunAbsolutely no one used them beyond abusing an old exploit where you could accidentally load magnum ammo. That's how much effort Looking Glass put into them, they made the riot gun load fucking magnum rounds by mistake.
>dart gunLegit loss, even if you only use it for the first two levels.
>I'm supposed to replace my weapons as I progressWhy? Remake keeps basically every weapon relevant because of the mods except maybe the pistol.
>The new grenade launcher fulfills the same function the original didIt does not even remotely have the same level of range or velocity as throwing on contact. I shit on cyborgs at range with it and I don't blow myself either.
>Shodan's plastique trap has no danger and completely misses the point of the original puzzleWhat are you talking about? It still locks you in the room with a puzzle you can't solve in time unless you use a logic probe
>The elevator trap during the self-destruct barely has enemies to block your progress. It still spawns giant cyborgs everywhere once you set the reactor to self destruct. What are you even talking about?
>>714888758A fetish is escapism. Men who have to tell others what to do all day want to take a break from reality and let someone else take charge for once. Women are usually submissive and this quickly becomes boring.
>>714962119I was playing on normal as I expected a challenging gameplay experience because of the reputation the game has, but yeah I have health items out the wazoo and every deck has a respawn place and a full health hospital bed that costs almost nothing to use. Which are fun to unlock, but still.
Actually the difficulty is not much of a complaint here, I think things like balance are overrated and get in the way of fun, you should be allowed to get OP to some degree (which the Assault Rifle does). Enemies just aren't responsive enough, their AI makes them less than challenging, and my gripes are again mostly with the design choices. There is exactly one cool design in the entire game, pic related, but all they do is kinda Morrowind-Strut around and shoot at you, they don't run at you and claw at you with melee damage while screeching or anything. There's so much in this game where I go "if only this was a LITTLE BIT different, this would've been great."
Also this isn't the game's fault but the way the animations reminded me of Thief broke my immersion a bit as well.
>>714960943>And the remake is missing musicIt literally has more tracks than the original. There's shared music across multiple levels in the original. Remake has unique tracks for every single level including Maintenance which never had any. In addition it even has combat tracks. The ONLY one you can argue was removed was the end theme which is basically the start theme anyway in favor of the The Order of Death
>it cut and minigames. It cut minigames, this is true but added chess in the groves.
>and won't have the jumpjets at the point in the remakeYou can just jump down to get it holy shit
>After you blow up the CPUs? Really? That's such a simple trap that I have a feeling you're mistaking it with something elseIt spawns like 20 cyborg drones in the original which is beyond retarded for the first level in the game and no resources. Original devs admitted on stream they fucked up.
>>714962216>Doesn't require mantling at allStill can be used and I got plenty of use from it.
>They literally just combined it in the remake. As a late game upgrade. The original had it a separate item that gets upgraded multiple times
>the multiple grenade typesThe remake has 4 grenade types against the orignals 7.
>You already had a machinegun, why did you need another?Good fucking question. Why the fuck did they change the Marc LeBlanc gun into one when it was a single fire rifle? The flechette was more useful.
>Absolutely no one used them beyond abusing an old exploit where you could accidentally load magnum ammo. Nice fucking remake that can't improve jack shit. Just cut it then We can't improve jackshit from devs with less dev time and storage space, yet somehow they still fit it in.
>Why? Remake keeps basically every weapon relevant because of the mods except maybe the pistol. Because the weapons improved linear and ammo for others became more abundant. I disagree. I don't think upgrades keep lower level weapons relevant at all.
>It does not even remotely have the same level of range or velocity as throwing on contact.Says you. They worked fine. You don;t need to activate them to bounce them.
>It still locks you in the room with a puzzle you can't solve in time unless you use a logic probe There's no danger. You huddle to the corner of the puzzle and you can't die. The logic probe wasn't your only option in the original.
>It still spawns giant cyborgs everywhere once you set the reactor to self destruct. What are you even talking about?Like 1
>>714962786Music fine. I hate the new ambient tracks over the original. I also dislike the enemy cries in the remake vs the original. We're also trading multiple minigames that can be played at anytime against a single one played in a single area. I don't get your jumpjet comment. It's a late game upgrade.
I still don't get the CPU trap. I beat the game on max combat and never had an issue with that trap and never saw an issue with it. I never thought it was too much and thought it was a highlight of the level. I don't get why the replaced the Cyborg Warrior with the Security Bot 1. I don't get why Cyborg Warrior is now a high tier enemy.

>>714963164>I hate the new ambient tracks over the originalSo do I
>I don't get your jumpjet commentI'm saying you don't need it to get that one battery. Mantling has only a handful of uses in SS1. It's Thief 1 and 2 where it's actually crucial to playing the game
>I beat the game on max combat and never had an issue with that trap and never saw an issue with itYou basically have to use all of your grenades, energy and pistol ammo to kill them all, even if you're fairly efficient. New players just get wrecked and go straight back to the restoration station. Nothing else in the game spawns that amount of enemies at once.
>I don't get why Cyborg Warrior is now a high tier enemyWhat's the problem with that? Honestly the Cyborg Warrior is basically a Security Bot 1 in the original. Both have similar health and use energy projectiles. If you ask me they changed it so they could have a slower moving, tankier enemy vulnerable to the new hacking mechanic in the remake
>>714965302Feeling called out?
>>714965771>What's the problem with that?Just a strange change to me. Warrior a late early game/early mid game. enemy but they made it a late game enemy for some reason. To tack in more things to complain about. I hate how all the cyborgs have the same bulky designs and the invisible mutant is just a Zero-G mutant.
Diego is pretty much just a Cyborg Warrior
>>714962834>Still can be used and I got plenty of use from it.I found two cases for it. That battery on the hospital level and the zero grav room on reactor.
>As a late game upgrade. The original had it a separate item that gets upgraded multiple timesYou don't get the initial turbo motion equivalent at quite the same time but you get its full functionality by the storage level just like in the original. What's missing from it is the special turbo button to go even faster and the feeling of skating, it's more like sliding in the remake.
>The remake has 4 grenade types against the orignals 7.I know but you don't get many of those other three at all. There's only like 10 in the game of each.
>Nice fucking remake that can't improve jack shit. Just cut it then We can't improve jackshit from devs with less dev time and storage space, yet somehow they still fit it in.Okay can I ask a question. Did you ever use it? Do you use the stasis weapon in SS2? Non-lethal weapons don't belong in System Shock.
>I don't think upgrades keep lower level weapons relevant at all.Magnum and Magpulse are still fantastic in endgame when upgraded. Sparq and pistol have limited uses but are still ok.
>They worked fine.Be honest, you killed yourself using grenades in the original several times because of the way they work. If a door starts closing on you and you throw a contact grenade at the same time you're dead. The high range and speed of the grenade launcher eliminates those issues
>You huddle to the corner of the puzzle and you can't dieI haven't been able to do that. It still kills me.
>The logic probe wasn't your only option in the original. Are you going to say the reflex patch as well?
>Like 1What? There's the same number of enemies spawning in
>>714889109Just like your dad did with you, right anon?
>>714963545Yes, its on the same engine and thief 2 was developed in close proximity to sshock2. It has everything the same, from reused animations to stealth mechanics to the weird moon physics. In thief 2 you just dont notice the clunkiness as much since you generally dont engage in combat
>>714960726This.
Being dominated by a woman as the default state is bullshit. What is fucking awesome (but tiring) is power plays between the man and woman, with the man taking the W 80% of the time, but letting the L 20% of the time.
>>714966648>Stun gunsI recall using a stasis a few times in 2. In 1, I recall testing tranq darts in the level 2 elevator ambush and found out the stun time isn't long enough to be viable. Would I use those stun weapons if the timing was improved? Yes. I could use it as an alternative to save on ammo or to abuse the spawning.
>weaponsThe Magnum and Magpulse were already good in 1. They were always good. They don't need those upgrades. None of the weapons do. Early level weak weapons are still weak and the good guns are still good. It's a pointless system to add a false sense of progression.
>GrenadesI only killed myself with grenades with the odd sloping in level 2. After learning to aim and bounce them, I had no problems with them. I found regular throwing and the launcher more cumbersome than the original.
>PlastiqueStand right in front of the puzzle and you're safe. Maybe you were spaced oddly. And yes, relfex patch is a solution. It's the easiest puzzle in the original but also the longest. The remake puzzle is the same as any other.
