I thought it was cool enough to try the first game and then that game sucked balls and I never looked at the series again. Normgroids are not human.

The future elements suck. They milked the franchise too hard. They turned all the modern ones into extremely repetitive offline MMO grinds that you have to spend real money to speed up so you can turn a 300 hour campaign into 100.

Ubi milked it dry and then proceeded to beat the cow to death.

fatigue? we've been force fed AC slop since 2005. ubisoft is not milking the cow but squeezing whatever ichor the cow had from its dessiccated corpse.

Brotherhood was probably the most influential game in the series, it really set the scene for the repetitive 'activity' based open worlds that AC would become, even though it had some of the best linear levels in the series.

>>714889067
Yes, but it misses the point of The Witcher hard, in that the story and characters always suck ass. Ubisoft also have some of the worst asset and animation reuse problems in the industry, which really breaks the open-world illusion.

No. It was degenerate. It tried to make some student cutting out brains seem like they were trying to do the right thing.

Anyone who likes the series should be killed.
Anyone who wears a hoodie should be killed.

I think this was the plan. Patrice Desilets wanted it to be a finite trilogy of Crusades->Italian Wars->Modern Day, but he got thrown out half way through Brotherhood and the series got turned into annual slop.

Everyone I knew, and I was like 13, thought it was half-baked and the sequel would probably be way better. That happened, but then the dream died.

I only played Odyssey of the nugames and it had zero Assassins or Templars shit...but instead it had ancient ayyliums and for some reason they still felt compelled to put in mandatory real world sections that throw you out of the game.

They milked the franchise to death then raped the corpse. Even worse, now that the games are overlong open world slogs, I don't feel obliged to buy them on sale for a quick playthrough, which I could actually say for the games pre-Origins.

>game almost every year
>gameplay barely changes between titles
>move to a game every couple years
>each game is now 3-5x longer and just as repetitive
As an expiriment I think it would be funny to play every game from 1 to Unity back to back and count how many times the same or effectively the animations play. Easily thousands of backstabs.

>AC1
oh cool a new game
>AC2
oh cool a new setting and mechanics
>AC3
getting a little samey and the story is weird, should probably have broken it up into more of an anthology
>ACBF
we are so back yarr harr and fiddle dedee stabbing cunts on the open sea swabbing the poop deck in the ocean breaze cause you arr a pirate
>skip a few
apparently they were alright after the patches
>ACO
back to egypt? oh hell yeah back to our prince of persia spiritual successor routes
wait no why do i have weapon stats? why am i escorting a literal child? this sucks
>skipped
because i unironically thought it was DLC for the last one
>ACV
oh they've refined some of the stats and junk new gameplay i guess thats cool
oh no they misgendered me
oh no they're gay
SMACK MY BI-SHOP WOO
wait so we were ancient aliens but incorporeal and in some kind of retroactive timeloop? they should stop making modern day segments unless they want to make a modern day game
>ACM
bugged to hell and about as deep as a DLC
>ACS
big blackrock samurai is here to NTR and have gay sex
not even interested in playing i should probably look up a synopsis of the modern day segments just to see how the story is devolving

the gameplay got repetitive which would be fine if the story was compelling but the story hadn't been the main focus of the game and even what it intrigue it had kind of dried up by 2 or 3
honestly despite how bad it's gotten i believe it could honestly still turn things around if they just fuck the story off and double down on gameplay

No one will admit it but the modern day story.
Everyone likes to say they hated it but the modern day story is fundamental to what made the stories good. It created an overarching story that is abstract, a writer that is able to write something like that is capable of writing an interesting story. Once the modern story ended, they was free to hire whatever college graduate without life experience they want. The barrier to entry was put into the floor.

Black Flag ruined it too. Black Flag was the start of the end of the gameplay. Assassin's Creed became a paint of coat they could put over any other game and is what gave them the confidence to turn it into RPGslop.

Well the concept was cool and the game was very rightly praised for its universal parkour as well as the impressive realistic rendition of Jerusalem.
But after 20 more games with very little actual improvements it's no wonder everyone has AssCreed faigue.

The combat in the first game was unbelievably boring, the concept itself was great though.

Is there a game in the series where you just play as an assassin collecting bounties without all of the religious cult crap and present-day bullshit?

I don't remember any of the modern stories in the first three that I played, they were not entertaining in the slightest compared to the historical part. The only real benefit to it is that you drop in an out of missions without having to travel to them, all the saved time is just wasted on modern day cutscenes instead though.

I'm not saying the modern story was good, I'm saying that it forced writers to create a complex story and that was a barrier to entry for writers.
They couldn't just hire anyone, they'd have to hire someone capable of taking both the current historical story, continuing the modern story and having them relate to each other. It creates scale. Even ignoring the modern story, it creates a grander story in the historical parts of the game.

Once the modern story goes, your writers can get lazier, you can hire less experienced and cheaper writers because the barrier to entry is "write a story in history and include good guys and bad guys."

the entire story of dishonored is about some twink emo version of G-man being a meddlesome god and revenge i guess
what you want is a more agile version of hitman, even if everyone he kills is coincidentally evil
