Real time button input prompts on your screen and the first tutorial is always "press xyz to move jump etc" the game is considering you retarded so it teaches you to jump. Becuase they're supposed to replacements for dead genres of games that no longer get made anymore. Like Metroidvania, Rouglike, etc. Most of them won't stand up to the quality of the GOATs, likr how HK isn't as good as Super Metroid. It's meant as filler content. As "Well atleast we have indie games in 5he genre still."

Any genre that is still being developed, for example, Soulsgames. Indie Soups games will look like amatuerish slop compared to Fromsoft titles.

Now extend this logic to all other genres and you will understand indie game love and indie game hate.

That's not splitting hairs, indie games just weren't a concept the way they are today (and even today we have no hard definition for them). They were just games like the rest of them and we didn't put them in a special category for which we wittingly or unwittingly lowered our standards because indies are such hard done by special snowflakes. We're obviously talking about new trends. But sure I can grant you those two old games that are only on there because they agreed to not list too many Cave games

Honestly I understand. I didnt like the demo that much. But as my experience with Noctis indicates. I dont tend to like the beginning of their games anyway. Its something that gets better with more abilities. I am somewhat disappointed that theyre still relying so heavily on fast travel and "multiple paths that lead no where or make the first path redundant no reason!" level design. But ive basically accepted that they suck at exploration level design at this point. I just hope everything else is good.
