This kind of humor does not compliment the tone of MN9, and it being dogshit dose it no favors.
You have to earn the audiences' respect in some way before you can comfortable enough to say a line like that. To say nothing about how Mega Man fans felt like dirt after the parade of cancellations from Capcom, and MN9 advertised itself as the return to form people were begging for. After a weak trailer that snidely mocked them, it's understandable why it would be the source of mockery.
All this said, it feels like the mid 2010's was a uniquely terrible time for Japanese games in general that weren't made by Fromsoft. Look how Nintendo advertised Fatal Frame 5, look how they tried to advertised Tokyo Mirage Sessions and try not the cringe into a corner.
