What would a new Banjo-Kazooie game need to do/have in order for it to be considered GREAT, and win your heart?

Literally just copy the overall game design of the first game and make new levels. That's it. That's all they have to do.

Bowling Bear has Kazooie run on top of Banjo while he curls into a ball, allowing you to pick up more speed than with Talon Trot at the expense of some traction

We just need them to take the games that people loved and do that again with some new bells and whistles

Hopefully astrobot showed that you can just make straight collectathon platformers still. The problem is a lot of the people who made banjo good don't even work at Rare anymore, and microsoft seems hellbent on keeping the few talented devs still around from making any fucking games.

I want to find out what happened to Tooty. What kind of person is she, as an adult? Who did she grow up to become? Is she still as sweet and innocent as when she was 10 years old? Or has she lost her compassion over time? It'd be fun to have her return only to realize she's completely the opposite now, being very edgy now, dresses in all black, that sorta thing

I think the responses I've seen of just copying the original game's formula is a pretty obvious and totally doable solution. The problem is finding devs willing and capable of making that and then convincing Microsoft to let them do it without executive meddling.

grunty captures tooty again and through out the game transitions into sexy grunty. kazooie should be a bigger cunt. klungo would be good and maybe mumbo swaps sides near the end when grunty gets hot. final boss mumbo could force you into different transformations or transform grunty into a giant dragon or something.

level design just make the levels small and self contained like kazooie since that has the best pacing. overworld can have some more involved stuff like tooie did. feel like they would need to have some new abilities but cant think of much maybe wall running or a goat transformation that lets you run on walls idk.

I don't think big companies enforce studios to make games outside of like their top 3 IPs. Usually the dev teams submit game-design-documents to the lead developer for approval. So basically if nobody there cares or remembers Banjo, especially the lead dev, then it won't get done. It's not like they have a guy who specifically scans their IPs and is like "uuuh yeah it's been X years since the last entry we have to make a sequel." So yeah, I don't think Microsoft is intentionally withholding Banjo. It's more like none of the studios want to make a Banjo game.

People make a big deal over dormant IPs but Microsoft has always been open to external devs wanting to take a crack at Rare's IPs that the studio itself has no plans on tackling anytime soon.

I imagine its a mix. Going to microsoft and saying "okay here's banjo threeie, its the original but bigger-er" probably does get rejected. Microsoft has a finite budget and has to pick what they think the market wants the most. So unless Rare can find some stupid gimmick for banjo (like open world slop) it will probably never get funding.

Oh yeah, definitely, controls might be a bit more clunky compared to Tooie, like a bit of ending lag on the roll, but it's definitely worth your time. It's a lot more straightforward with its worlds compared to Tooie's open-endedness, but they're nice and to the point, you can clear every world in a single go, with one exception regarding Freezeezy Peak, but ultimately, it's worth playing through.

Exactly. And the time a new studio does take a crack at an old/abandoned IP, none of the original creators are usually involved. It takes a rare combination of super fans of the IP that have actual talent behind them to pull it off (ex: Sonic Mania). Otherwise you get something that's a pale imitation of the old work or what the new team considers a "better" vision of the old work.

I know there are those who worked on the original games that have said it would be impossible to please anyone with a new BK, but those of us who played it back in 98 and ACTUALLY want a new game already know exactly what we want from it. I don't expect a perfect game, but the formula is already there.

My suggestion is to keep it simple expand on Banjo Tooie and flesh out Banjo and Kazooie's separate abilities. And make them be able to switch without a stupid pad. And no Mumbo because no one liked playing as that crippled character.

That aside complete the trilogy and this time permanently destroy Gruntilda. That's all Banjo needs complete the trilogy to put an end to the bear and bird. And the best thing that ever happened to Banjo is Gregg Mayles left Rare. Now Banjo has a chance to get a new game. We don't know if its good but its great to hear that bastard no longer works at Rare. Would be better if he died. He's the one who was blocking new Banjo games.

Banjo doesn't need to be like Sonic going on forever. He simply needs a third game to finish the trilogy. Even lesser platformers that sold less like Sly Cooper and Jak got a third game.

Wrong. Microsoft got into the gaming industry while NEVER managing anything which is why Halo fell apart once Bungie was finished with Halo. So it's not that Microsoft is interfering they are so hands off they allow properties to become mismanaged and rot. There is no micro managing which leads to failure. Even Sega oversees Sonic. They do a mediocre job but they still keep an eye on the blue hedgehog to make sure nothing too hideous happens. That's still better than what Microsoft does which is Look The Other Way And Never Question.
