Nintendo expanding is fine but I would like to see Nintendo starting new studios in other parts of the world. Retro Games and Monolith games have a different flavor to them then the EPD games.

It's something they rarely do because they largely prefer independent second party partners that they can co-own a series with.
They concentrated more domestically around the Game Cube era with a few exceptions two of which they'd later outright buy into first party studios.
They only owned Monolith Soft majority-wise and only recently got the whole thing.
Shiver was an odd purchase but people strongly believe it'll mostly be for porting.

Outsourcing is globalization numb-nuts. By your logic Nintendo should never sell their games and consoles outside of Japan.

They helped fund Retro Studios' from the ground-up to be a second party studio and while Metroid Prime was a masterpiece, Retro's birth was rough and they had to outright buy them because the morale was terrible.
I doubt Nintendo would be looking to create a new foreign studio from the ground-up if they remember that.

Clean Japanese buildings. The inside is whole different story but Japan doesn't really like flashy buildings from the outside. There are exceptions but they are rare. Sony in Tokyo and Kojimbles place look similar. In fact, the whole commercial district of Tokyo has virtually no commercial signs. At most they'll have a muted sign on ground level and a simple brand name on top of the building.
It might look like shit on it's own but there's beauty in it's simplicity and cohesion with buildings around it. They also love to build little parks and shit between the buildings (they also leave a lot of space inbetween buildings) so it feels really spatious and open despite being surrounded by gigabuildings. It's a very pleasant environment desu. New York or similar american hellholes are quite the opposite and feel oppressive.

While that may be true, it is also true that Nintendo was in a bidding war to get Rare before Microsoft ultimately won. Nintendo tries to hold onto talent when it's recognized and so it's reasonable to assume that, while rare, Nintendo wouldn't be apposed to the idea of expanding beyond Japan in order to secure people budding talent from across the world. Building and expanding studios to Nintendo seems more safe and less costly in the long run so I think it's only a matter of time.

>commercial district
Meant financial district. The commercial districts are obviously plastered with neon and led signage. Which also has it's charm but it's very soothing outside those areas. You are not getting blasted by commercial signage outside of those general areas.

Talent is increasingly harder to come by and wages outside of Japan are just too expensive. Not to mention regulatory bodies and unions up the cost as well, which is why they don't have any game studios in Europe. They have "Nintendo European Research & Development" as their only European owned "studio" but that subsidiary doesn't make games. Not just talent, but work ethic and culture might be too much of a hassle. Retro was literally made to be a part of Nintendo and they still need to be tardwrangled 20 years later.

My concern is that you end up getting something like Ubisoft where you have all these teams from across the globe that just blend together or lack a personality

You think having individual studios would make them all blend together but having each dev team under the same building won't? Ubisoftmade their studios that way when they got them all to copy-paste the same open world format.

It'll be cheaper in the long run (decades) to have another building full of employees to make and support their games. Since they'll all be paid a Jap salary, it'll be even cheaper because they save 50% on every employee compared to overseas western ones and they're just as talented, if not better. Also, being Nintendo employees guarantees they'll make Nintendo games, unlike having to rely on VERY unreliable third-party partners to maybe push some shitty late port to Nintendo systems.

It's just an office building, you go inside, have meetings, stare at screens, drink coffee and go home, it doesn't need to be soulful.

Now picrel is pure soul, I always wondered if it was inspired by a nearby park or golf course, I'm leaning towards probably not because the area surrounding Nintendo's HQ looks pretty drab.

They have people from other EPD departments to help produce and even assist with games handled by developers outside of EPD ranging from second party partners to overseas first party developers in the West like with Retro and NST
Depending on how the expansion goes, they might branch off more into that

No they weren't. They had 49% share in Rare and decided to sell because their talent was hemorrhaging and they had nothing ready for the Gamecube

Wrong, there was a threeway bidding war between Nintendo, Activision, and Microsoft. That's a fact, there are records. That shows Nintendo was trying to keep Rare but obviously once Microsoft got involved it was over.
