I played the pre-alpha months ago. I'm more of a skate sim guy myself, and the new game went even more the direction of skate 3. I'll keep playing Session, I guess.

it's not San Vanelona, it's San Vansterdam in the new game. Honestly, it's not original at all. It's San Francisco + Vancouver with Amsterdam instead of Barcelona. Why not east coast cities? I understand why San Fran is there cause of the hills in the city, but Vancouver was already done to death in Skate 1 and 2, and what fucking skate spots are in Amsterdam anyway? I've never heard of Amsterdam being a "mission" city like Barça.

I played Skater XL like 10 minutes when it came out and didn't like how it handled. Took a bit to get good at Session, but now I can play with Left/Right foot on lock
