This is clearly Proto-Death Stranding. Why did Kojimbo lie about this game not being his idea?

i think kojima probably had a few ideas about death stranding/survive/the next part of metal gear and silent hills, he was location scouting in iceland in 2014 (a year before leaving konami). either konami picked up the pieces of what the project was going to turn into and tried to complete it (and get it out before death stranding), which is why there was simultaneous development of two projects that are so similar from a game director and his old employers.
or we are all being rused and shown metal gear survive as the "chiral image" of death stranding. it is all part of the same MK ULTRA experience. we are getting metal gear delta. the symbol for delta is Δ, almost the chiral image of V for MGSV. delta is also term used when describing chirality, delta for the right and lambda for the left. oh yeah, it's all coming together.

Survive wasn't a particularly good game, but it got more shit than it would've otherwise because of the TPP drama. I'd bet my house that had it been directed by Shinta Nojiri and Kojima had a producer's credit on it, it wouldn't have got half the crap in the press it did.

NTA but I actually unironically like the game too. I think you would of kinda had to play it when it was more active, though. A large part of the fun was the online matches.

if you liked the part of mgsv where you stole crates of materials and watched numbers go up then you would like survive

It can be worth it if you get it for cheap. Interesting enough premise but suffers from some bad Japanese design grinding autism. It is one of those things that is either going to click with you or not.

I saved all the fucking materials for a bridge and thought I was so clever that I could skip part of the game by placing it in the right spot but even tho building the bridge should have been possible there was an invisible trigger that didn't allow me to I never ragequitted a game so hard I uninstalled on the spot and to this day I'm still butthurt, I'll always be butthurt

nta, but i also love survive and death stranding. it is MGSV's movement, but coupled with actual survival mechanics. hunger and thirst meters as well as an oxygen meter while you are in the thick, silent hill-esque fog. it has some good scavenging and exploration. stamina, food, and hunger makes the open world more interesting to navigate because you have to think about your route and planning how to go through it all, whereas in TPP you can just sprint across the map if you'd like with total ease and no consequence. the base building of survive is actually there as well, building on a grid and deciding what goes where, with some horde defense moments so that you actually think about placement and care more about scavenging for supplies.

the subr*ddit has gotten really depressing the last few years. it's just people arguing about helicopter blades, and FiB came back a few months ago to keep telling everyone how much smarter he is than everyone and that he is actually kojima's wife and to brag about getting a couple viewers on chaterbate.

It was really fun, and when coop worked it was pretty enjoyable. But that was because the movement/combat of MGSV was great and it translated well to a zombie setting.

It was ruined because 1. it wasn't kojima so the fanboys got mad and 2. they split coop into fifty thousand game modes with separate search functions so you couldn't even find people if you wanted to

This was an amazing game, and only brainlets shat on it "because it's not a Metal Gear game!".
Dumb fucks never heard of a spinoff and don't even know Metal Gear Acid exists.

Metal Gear Rising remains one of the most beloved Metal Gear games.
Neither Acid nor Portable Ops (which also wasn't directed by Kojima) were hated to the same extent as Survive.

people didn't even play survive. they hated it because they hated konami and the percieved slight on themselves and kojima. people who played it would recognize it as game that probably isn't for everybody, is serviceable for what it does, introduces some neat ideas into the plot that actually kind of make some of the ludicrous tech in TPP make sense, and isn't even "mainline" so it shouldn't matter anyways. it was entirely due to #FUCKONAMI and e-celebs like dunkey making videos on it saying "it is sooo bad" and everyone taking that as gospel.

It's crazy how dishonest pretty much every review on Survive was and still is (for the one or two reviews that come out years later). Even when they try to review it a little more seriously, they still fumble it by not even touching the multiplayer which is the main point of the whole game and if they do they all still play as fence poking drooling retards. Kind of reminds me of people who play Nioh and play it like Dark Souls then stop after they beat the game on normal difficulty.

Over-explaining things is what ruined MGS as a whole. People who became preoccupied with the lore (when MGS2 wasn't meant to be taken that seriously) ended up with Liquid Ocelot being a case of hypnosis, or having to listen to huge exposition dumps in MGS4.

Beyond that, people at the time (even outside of the MGS fanbase) were already growing weary of always-online and open world/survival/crafting shit in games. I remember playing Survive's beta at the time and feeling bored from the tower defense style of gameplay. Nothing about it drew me in, and the controls/movement from MGSV that people always harped on were massively nerfed and made clunkier in Survive. I say that as a autist who committed to not upgrading movement or reload speed in MGSV since the beginning.

You could barely call Survive a spin-off, it was more like an extra mode on par with Freelancer for Hitman being sold as mid-priced game which also marked the death of the series. It was the perfect storm of bullshit.
