The first one is better than the second. It’s like the Alien to Aliens / Evil Dead to Evil Dead II problem. The tone and vibe is amplified and something is lost while something new is created.

DS2 is for the boys. DS1 is for the men

they disguise it by giving you shit to do, mainly menial tasks, while walking around like various QTEs to not trip over and fall

No, that would be any final fantasy game or rpg that goes in a flat room

Death Stranding is a environmental puzzle game where you have to figure out how the fuck to go from A to B with the least stress possible and least damage to your cargo.

Splash in a crazy story, some dangerous enemies "BT's" that you have to sneak by and you got yourself a good old fashioned Survival Horror.

Now Death Stranding 2? Thats a walking sim, all of what I just said is GONE, nothing is threatening in that game.

I even tested it to find out, fell off the top of a mountain, rolled to the bottom on purpose, still got an A rank.

Every time.
DS1 was one of the best games of the past 10 years. Absolutely addicting game.

Death Stranding is an open-world survival game, with some light TERRAFORMING aspects that you can tackle together with the online community.

It's not a walking sim, and it's definitely NOT movie-slop like TLOU.

I agree to an extent but both games stand on their own for me like one doesnt outshine the other because of that difference in tone. There's a lot going on under the surface in the plot of DS2 which is intersting like going into photo mode on the ship with the gals post game (when they've left it) and when you exit out back into your room Sam snaps awake like he's been in a dream. Lots of little stuff like that I'm finding.

It's a hiking simulator more than anything, that's why it's good

The ranks are broken. Basically anything under S is a complete failure, but the only time I've ever gotten A is when I barely bump a little rock. I've never even seen anything lower besides Magellan. It makes it really frustrating and it doesn't feel balanced. Thankfully I'm not autistic enough to feel the need to plat it (at least not on release)

You barely walk in these games outside of the tutorial areas. It’s more of a driving simulator mixed in with some walking and zip lines.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm glad Kojima stubbornly kept that as the core of the experience and didn't backpedal on it after the first game's shaky reception.
Death Stranding is the only AAA franchise I can think of that has esoteric appeal. We need shit like this.

So they disguise it from being a walking simulator by making it an actual walking simulator

This game means different things to different people. To most, it’s a pretentious walking simulator resulting from Kojima’s midlife crisis and mental breakdown from getting fired. To some, it’s a comfy hiking/FedEx simulator combined with occasional forced combat segments. And then there’s the minority that feel a deep emotional connection to this game. It teaches you that yes you can. At the start of the game, Sam lives an isolated life, cut away from others, squirming at the lightest touch and refusing to so much as shake hands with people. When he finally gets dragged back to meet the people he’s been avoiding, they manage to talk to him (after many repeated tries) into doing what only he can do. He’s initially scared and disillusioned with their ideas but he slowly learns to overcome his fears and face the future. That’s what this game is truly about - facing your fears and learning to play. Ludens, some made up word Kojima appropriated, is a strong recurring theme in the game. It refers to the idea of playing. Homo Ludens, the man who plays, is Kojima’s idea of the next stage of man. In a world so cynical and devoid of life, we need to take a step back and embrace our playful side. That’s why you see so many “cringe” moments in this game and especially the second one, like Pekora appearing as a character or that one scene with Die-Hardman or Sam singing and dancing Ii Yu Dana in the baths. In a world so dark and depressing, much like the real world we live in, the characters refuse to take it seriously and insist on maintaining a playful side. Like I said, depending on what kind of person you are, this game is either pretentious garbage, a comfy autism simulator, or a philosophy.
What I’m really trying to say is - Don’t be so serious
