VR will always fail for long as you can't be FULLY immersed like some star trek holodeck. For now 90% of VR games are low poly proof of concept games that aren't even as good as wii sports or whatever. Until you can get multiple full length games (or fully immersive mmo) with good graphics VR will fail.
>alyx!!!!
ok, and when you are finished with that, then what? you are stuck with a piece of metal that costs several thousand dollars that you can't do anything with. You don't need a "killer app", you need like two dozen killer apps MINIMUM

You're not entirely wrong, for me it's mostly the controllers that give a sense of immersion.
I remember in HL:A, there's a part where you have to be quiet, and you open a cupboard only for a bottle to roll out and threaten to fall ; I caught it by pure reflex, without even thinking of my motions. That was a moment of pure immersion.
But most VR games have shit controls that constantly break suspension of disbelief so yeah

I bought a Quest 3 and I eventually realized that the thing I was enjoying wasn't the visuals but the improved motion controls. I think shit like Alyx and Blade and Sorcery would unironically be more appealing to a general audience if it was just the motion controls shooting and melee except on a normal big screen TV. The visual element is cool for a few minutes then your brain stops being impressed by it but the annoyance of having a screen taped to your eyes persists

I think it's the opposite, there needs to be less fps games and more platformers and other perspectives all the appeal for me is the 3d space I've had more fun with flat mods without motion controls than dedicated VR titles. The controllers are the worst part of the VR experience now hand tracking is bretty cool when it works right.

Imagine a technology so unnatural that it should not be used on children because it negatively affects brain development. That's VR, LOL.
VR will never become mainstream. The vast majority of people do not think it is a good idea to use something for entertainment that pits all your senses against each other to the point where your brain starts to make you feel nauseous.
The human brain is the first obstacle to the popularization of VR, and as long as people have brains, there will be a rejection of this technology.

Yes there is. I felt it.
I feel it when I go among people in VR, and when I look at the scale of things.
People used to be able to get immersed in text-RPGs. Later, in 2D and 3D games. Now we have VR that puts you "in" the game.
I'm NOT going to say that every VR game is better than regular ones, but it should be the easiest way to get immersed in a game-world.

Honestly, if you didn't feel "it" then you probably set it up wrong. A few years ago I bought a PSVR and it felt like that for the first few days. Then the Resident Evil VII VR mode came out and I recalibrated everything. It was immediately apparent that I wasn't experiencing VR the entire time before.

Video games elicit negative brain development in basic motor functions. A common trait of children who play video games to an excessive degree is reduced limb coordination. In part, it plays into the stereotype that "nerds" can't play sports.

I argue the opposite; that it fails because it's more difficult than traditional vidya to just pick up and play. VR should be an accessory to or extension of traditional flatscreen gaming and gamepad controls should always be included as an option in VR games for those who prefer it as opposed to being pigeonholed into some special Wii remote wagglefest niche that gets old VERY quickly.

Depends which headset I use.
For more gamey games, you can't get around the fact that they're improved by having joysticks and A + B. So the Valve Index are the best compromise between accurate hand tracking and having a gameplay.
The Vive Focus 3 has native hand tracking which feels REALLY nice, but the lack of actual buttons is quite limiting.

Nearly the only reason you even have iron sights in modern games is because they function as a "walk" button for your camera controls on dual analog setups, enabling controllers to swap between being unbearably slow and unbearably inaccurate. You can easily forgo that kind of thing when using VR controls on a flat screen.

The sheer garbage fire that is "controls in VR" could definitely use an overhaul. Not having button remapping is what killed the Wii.
>>714978961
They couldn't really compete with the sheer scope of Zuck's anti-marketing for VR. It shouldn't be too hard for official VR conversions to exist for popular titles, but not only is the most widely known (to retards) VR thing (Meta's Second life bullshit) complete ass, but it wasted a lot of money, so managers view VR porting as difficult, expensive and not worth it.

Two drinks at a rooftop bar in a big city with people too caught in their own friend groups to socialize costs more than a handle of Morgan and six hours in a public lobby, beating smug women in pool and pounding pints and shooting shit with randoms who are actually my age and actually relate to by the virtue of being in a public VRC lobby, like God intended.

From all of the news so far, Deckard looks like an attempt of snatching some of the standalone VR market + building a portable machine for flat vidya on a big screen inside headset. BSB2 is probably a safer bet for people who want a good wired PCVR. Then again, if there's any company that randomly drops absolute miracles or trash, it's valve.

Or at least such was my cope when I've preordered a BSB2. If Deckard turns out to be something better, oh well, I'll have two headsets and waste some money.

My expectations for the Deckard are exactly this:
>Standalone headset, hybrid between Deck and Index
>Updated Valve knuckle controllers
>Wireless PCVR connection
>Eye tracking (helps with optimization)
>Inside out tracking for controllers and potentially hands
>Overall better specifications than the Index, but not quite matching the top of the line headsets
>Sold at a loss (but still pretty expensive)

>BSB2 will still probably be the better headset in terms of pure quality, but the Deckard will be the new king of value for money

The real cope is whether or not it comes with Half Life 3.

dumb nigga probably used google cardboard or project labo.

I'm actually a pretty big critic of VR since there are VERY few compelling reasons to go through the hassle and jank of setting up a HMD / cable management / hardware babysitting, but any headset made since 2020 feels very immersive. Unfortunately there's no compelling game / killer app to even mildly interest me in using the HMD. VR is and continues to be DoA because of a lack of software, not because of hardware.

I think you can partially blame the hardware side of things (though I guess part of that is still software, just not games and stuff).
The ecosystems being so locked down that you need to get a new set of controllers with practically every new headset outside of the SteamVR lighthouse ecosystem is pretty bad and the locked down Android spins for the standalone headsets are also awful and limiting.
