All the best stances have your hands in pretty much the middle of your body so you can go high or low depending on what gets thrown

Eh, when I was in karate I was taught to stand more like this when fighting, albeit with my legs less stiff. Being able to keep your front hand within range to block incoming strikes to the head then using your reverse hand to retaliate. Having to raise your front hand from your torso to your face to intercept an attack would be seen as too much movement, at least how I was instructed (like we were constantly reminded not to drop our front hand during sparring sessions).

Depends on the martial arts.

Combat sports have rules so they use diferent stances.
Taekwondo stance is optimized for leg fight and boxing is optimized for punches to the head.

Street fighting is just larping BS because in street fights anything goes so you can use weapons, sticks, a rock.

MMA BS is homosexual shit when in a street fight you usually have to fight more than one guy at the same time.

Also, criminals usually have a screwdriver if you're british, a knife or a gun, so stances are useless.
