I did research on this recently! The actual reason is that the PS3 was releasing at a similar time and they were scared that saying Xbox 2 would make it look inferior to the PS3’s number 3, so they came up with 360 - it starts with a 3 and it’s enough to be different too.

If you want a serious answer, Xbox One was supposed to be an all in one home entertainment system. It had a huge focus on multimedia, which is why the initial press conference was such a disaster. That and all the retarded anti consumer shit like no used games.
