>>714979137 (OP)Something I've noticed with games today (but primarily Ubisoft) is that the direction in a lot of cutscenes aren't there to show action or epic moments anymore like the top clip, it's mostly just 2 or a small handful of people talking at each other. And it all follows the same formula
>*Quest giving NPC crosses arms* "Have you heard of the local bandits that are running rampant on the nearby town?">*PC shifts weight to one leg* "No, I haven't">*Quest giving NPC un-crosses arms* "They're led by Brown Eye Bill, a real menace around these parts. As long as his crew is robbing the town they can't get food or water">*PC shifts weight to other leg* "Someone has to do something about that">*Quest giving NPC puts hands on hips* "haha, I knew you would say that. How about you take your special 'brand of justice' and show those bandits what for"And yeah sometimes at the climax or when they reveal a twist they'll have a scene where the villain might throw a punch or stab someone in the stomach with a dagger but it definitely feels more ridged and un-dyanmic
It makes me miss pre-rended cutscenes because then the devs can go wild with what they show, when it's just mocapped NPC talking you just get the canned animations on repeat
And that's if they even both to animate the scene at all, if it's a smaller quest they'll just tell you over the radio "I've marked your map" with a static picture of the NPC in the upper right hand corner
