There is no hype.
Just Geraltโ€™s tiny white pecker.

Many such cases. Project Moon did the same thing - the first game is the only good one, and every subsequent game sucks.

All of The Witcher games are good and so is Cyberpunk after they fixed it

Witcher 1, 2 and 3, but 3 was the worst one yet. It was the one that made them normiestream, and Cyberpunk is just more of what's bland about Witcher 3 set in a furtherly linearized "open world" in a new world/setting.
People that started hyping up CDPR due to Witcher 3 didn't know the truth.

The appeal was always that CDPR punched above their weight, a small slav studio competing with big western studios with unlimited budgets. The games themselves are carried hard by the setting and Geralt's charisma but each one still has one thing that it excels at. TW2 is the only game I can think of that delivers on the "your choices matter" meme because your actions will dramatically change your playthrough. CDPR used to be one of the most ambitious studios in the industry, that's why the hype for CP77 was off the charts.

Also don't forget that CDPR were "the good guys", was it all an act? Was it legit? Doesn't matter, they gave you free DLC, released their games DRM free, offered substantial updates that any other publisher would have sold as a new edition for free. GOG is legitimately what a "good guy storefront" would be like, offering a way to play older games to modern hardware, DRM free standalone installers, efforts to revive and bring back deceased games in publishing rights limbo.

I get that Thronebreaker is your favorite, but Witcher 1 and 2 were great too.
