I will admit I haven't played the OG SH2 I was gonna play it once on PC but the port was seemed bad to me so I didn't bother to play it.
Regardless when playing the remake I noticed that the sound makes the game scary especially with the radio on.
Which got me thinking, is the sound design of games, what makes them scary?
Don't get me wrong before playing the sh2 remake I have played other horror games(to name a few DOOM 3,RE1 Remake,RE rev1....)
Before SH2 remake(I don't it displaces the original so I plan to play the original emulated)
I thought DOOM 3 was the scariest due to constantly being in the dark and needing to switch between a gun and a flashlight. But even the bastardized remake of SH2 managed to be scarier. Specifically the jail part that part,
So my question is the sound design of games is what makes them scary?
Because I never felt the tension I experienced in the sh2 remake in DOOM 3(except maybe during the power outage of delta labs 1 but only then)
