>>714986590 (OP) You're not playing on original hardware hooked up to a CRT with your brother sitting next to you on the afternoon of December 26, 1990.
>>714986590 (OP) you haven't played smb1, lost levels, smb2 beforehand

>>714988194 >SNES version There's your problem. All-Stars is missing something of the original version's soul. Maybe it's the NES chugging with too many enemies onscreen, or the color glitches on the left and right as the screen scrolls, or perhaps the subtle timing differences in the minigames, but it's a wholly different feel.

>>714987396 >it doesn't though So you're at least 24 years old and never played SMB3?
>hate the Charleston music >hate the billion costumes (especially the frog one which only has a use in water levels) >hate all the retarded minigames it throws you >last bunch of stages are hard as fuck for no reason I think SMB3 is overrated
>>714989610 Still probably one of the best NES can offer.

I've played through Mario 3 so many times I have most stages memorized and committed to muscle memory. Its not fun unless I give myself a challenge like no coins or no kills or I play a rom hack
>>714986590 (OP) You must not have a soul. I played it and I'm a millennial Zoomer who played it on Wii. It's full of Whimsy and Charm, best NES game of all time.
>>714990101 in what way? it's more iconic but SMB3 has more features and better graphix

>>714990351 None of the NES games stand time. But if Mario 3 was released in 1985 and Mario 1 three years later people would've laughed their asses off. Mario 3 takes the full advantage of the console and pushes it to its peak.
>>714990772 I can't even fathom the contrarianism. Mario 3 is just more fun to play.

My favorite Mario game is Yoshi's Island.

>>714990542 Nah, there's like at least 30 NES games that are still great fun today. SMB, Contra, Zelda, Punchout, Castlevania, Tetris, Ninja Gaiden, Gimmick, Kirby etc.
>>714991212 I'll vouch for Kid Icarus (amazing how easy that game gets after level 1 lol), and of course Mother 1. Decent Dr. Mario and Tetris versions too.
