SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.
If you're making elaborate, separate homes for your NPCs because you hate the idea of commie blocks, you need to be certain that the banners/portraits that appear on their homes are within a certain distance between eachother. (I don't remember the exact number.)
I've recently made a similar mistake and thought "Oh hey, I can make nice suburbs for my NPCs like I'm a dumb girl playing with dolls." only to realize what my problem was.
