I always hear so many conflicting reports so i don't know if to buy keys from them, they are so cheap but what if they are a scam?

Though sometimes it feels like the people seething are losers who worship corporations so they go "REEEE HOW DARE YOU NOT BUY FROM STEAM FOR $70 USD!?"

The keys are so cheap because they're often bought with stolen CC info.

You'll get your key, but you're probably supporting people doing shitty stuff.

No, you shouldn't use them unless you want your credit card number stolen and used to buy keys that get resold on the same sites.
There are some officially sanctioned ones like humble bundle, but that one's owned by IGN so buying a steam key off of humble means giving their shitty journo stooges a continued salary.

>You'll get your key
if its found to be bought with a stolen CC, steam will retract access to the game, and have done it to others.
I've bough a few keys and have had nothing happen to me personally though

They probably launder money using steam marketplace
>Steal CC info or a Steam Account
>Buy CS or TF2 items
>Trade them over to another account
>They sell the items
>Buy game keys with that money
It's still trackable but it's ass to deal with because of the innocent people caught in the crossfire who bought the items

I've been buying CD keys for years (going back to russian keys not needing a VPN) including steam gifts, I've never had anything revoked.
That said, I would probably avoid steam gifts in current day and obviously buying accounts is going to have them reclaimed to be resold again because why the fuck wouldn't they?
Just use gg.deals and read the big obvious warnings and use common sense.

op if it can link to paypal use that and don't worry about cc info. i've used greenmangaming and g2a probably two dozen times over the last ten years and never gotten burned for it.

it isn't that these keys are stolen from the companies, that makes no sense. the game company/publisher would just revoke the license if they knew those keys were stolen.
what almost always happens is it's a way to launder money from stolen cc/debit card information. there's a reason most of these sites are based out of eastern eu.

Use gg deals to find the best discount
Anything under official store is 100% safe, so stop being wary of Fanatical or Greenman or similar stores.
As for things under Keyshops, I and tons of other /v/irgins use CDKeys (not PremiumCDKeys). They're safe. I wouldn't touch any of the other Keyshops though.
Just look at this link for an example

If you want to risk your key getting revoked and your Steam account possibly getting banned for whatever possibly shady reason to save a few dollars, that's on you. Personally, if I can't buy directly from Steam or GOG, I just pirate. It's really that simple.

I'm pretty sure CDkeys is an authorized dealer of keys distributed by the game companies themselves. I've bought about 50% of my games from there and there's never been a problem.

Recently bought GOW ragnarok through cdkeys, which I have never ever had problems with and has always been reliable, and...despite the game seemingly being playable for everybody else on steam deck, it wouldnt launch for me, even with all the supposed "Fixes".

Doing more research online it seems to happen mostly to steam deck tards who pirated. But how could a key be cracked or whatever? I dont know im just fucking spinning gears at this point. I have no idea why my $60 game isnt working.

And i dont even believe for a second that cdkey would refund me, theyd probably blame it on me in the end somehow and say because i already used it they cant do anything (Even though I wouldnt have been able to find out that the game had a problem without playing)

Fuck man

If you don't want to buy the game just pirate it.

I really don't understand this half measure shit. If you dont want to buy it don't.

Same applies to retro games, just pirate the fucking game, don't buy Chinese reproductions.

>Are key vidya sites trustworthy
Depends on the site. There are legitimate sites that get their keys from publishers and sell them at a discount.
Sites like Fanatical, GreenmanGaming, or Gamebillet.
https://isthereanydeal.com/
Use this to find the legitimate sites

And then there are "shadier" key sites which basically follow ebays rules of looking at the specific buyer and their reputation. You're on your own in this case.

Neither of these options will likely get you a refund but you may be able to get something out of an official reseller, such as a replacement key, if you're willing to go through some headaches.

Official sellers like Fanatical and Green Man Gaming and such are safe because they're selling official keys
Sites like CDkeys are technically grey market but still pretty safe as they're not a market place site.
Anything that is a market place such as Eneba or Kinguin definitely can get you scammed, but if you pick from sellers who have good rep and minimal reported key % then you should be fine.

Of the sketchy key sites, I've used CDKeys & Eneba.
Haven't gotten any keys revoked yet. Otherwise, I'll buy from Fanatical or GreenManGaming for any games I want at launch since those two typically have anywhere from 15% - 20% off launch MSRP
