Hard to say.
The games are worth it.
Emulation hasn't gotten to everything for PS3 yet.
And if you can get ps3 games at a reasonable price and not the jacked up retro game pricing.... yeah it's worth it.
But if you can't.... then probably not.

Yes, tons of great exclusives, tons of great 7th gen games also on 360 that never got PC or modern ports, and it is probably still the best blu-ray/DVD player you can get

probably not. im guessing most of the good ps6 games though will be remakes of ps1-ps2 games. we still need silent hill 1 - 3 - 4 remakes, as well as og mgs1-2 remakes. plenty of other good horror games on the ps2 aswell that new remakes.

Consider for: mgs4, demons souls, drakengard 3, little big planet, folk lore, 3d dot game heroes, valkyria chronicles, the disgaea games

If you dont have a pc, 360, or ps4, consider a ps3 for these multiplat and cross gen games:

Also despite what people will tell you, the performance gap between 360 and ps3 isnt significant.

But I see a lot of people buy a PS3 just to play like the shittiest version of 7th gen multiplatform games that are better on 360/Xbox One/or especially PC.

I keep mine around for Time Crisis Razing Storm, House of the Dead 3 and 4, Dead Space Extraction, Ridge Racer 7, the Resistance trilogy and a few others. A Move controller also, of course.

Most games don't share the same design philosophies of 3rd~5th gen games, man of those games ranging from 30 to 40 years old thus have a decade or two on the console. 7th gen was just shit with a few gems scattered abound.

MGS4, Demon Souls, and Little Big Planet I guess. Little Big Planet is fun but the new ones are just as good. I wanted to play MGS4 last year and found out that my PS3 was broken. Now I'm just waiting for them to rerelease it in the next collection

Sure. There are still some games that remain exclusive to it. And some games actually look great and have great performance. Just don't plan on using it for some multiplatform AAA shit as there's probably a version withoug jaggies, screen tearing and other shit characteristic to that generation and nogaems station specifically.

Why don't games get made for old consoles besides homebrew?
What business sense does it make to ignore consoles that have sold millions and still sell in the third world?

I've literally been asking that damn question since the N64 days. I've been craving a new PS2 GTA game nearly 20 years since Vice City Story's port. PS3 onwards never felt the same.
Sonic Mania and the 2D Wii U Super Mario Bros games blew my mind because before the 2010s, it was unthinkable for major studios to physically release 2D games on the big 3 consoles. Now it's normalized.
But we're still not getting new games for old consoles proper except indie games on Steam.
