not really, they never really managed to make TP management interesting or impactful. all it did was make you level DRG for Invigorate so if you got res'd mid battle you could actually do things afterwards. they didn't really try to make it interesting to manage so cutting it was probably for the best

Naoki Yoshida should drop one of his rings onto the train tracks today and make the wise decision to recover it before the oncoming train derails and causes a greater loss of life.
That's the only way he's going down positively in history.

I don't miss it specifically but I do miss the sort of design it represented and has been entirely abandoned since, and think the game is overall worse since its removal.

all weaponskills cost TP until shadowbringers. it regenerated pretty quick, and classes had abilities to restore their own tp, but until stormblood fights were balanced to basically have physical classes (especially monk who attacked really quickly) run out of TP and need a bard/machinist to restore it, which costs the bard/machinist some of their damage. stormblood made bard & machinist TP restoration totally free and insanely strong and classes just became TP independent anyway so it was basically a dead mechanic in stormblood unless someone died, then it went away the next expansion

interesting, thanks. not surprised it got cut. honestly mp also seems a bit of a residual mechanic for many classes as far as i've seen, even ones that use it constantly like smn.

yes, MP is going the same way, so you have an understanding of the situation TP was in in stormblood.
i didn't mind it, it was a fine mechanic. interesting high-end optimizations around it too. could take it or leave it.

summoner uses it arguably a little more than it did pre-rework but still not enough that lucid dreaming can't always keep you attacking
it mostly matters for red mage after the removal of mana shift meant black mage lost a use for its infinite MP

TP was never anything but a speed limit on how much aoe you can spam if you don't have a class that has the good TP regen buff and an extreme penalty towards dying, they failed to carry over literally anything that made TP interesting as a resource in FF11 and just included it because that game had it, removing it did nothing except mean I no longer have to press my "give you more TP" button on cooldown to be constantly keeping my GCD rolling 99% of the time.

ff14 players think pressing lots of buttons is the literal only complexity that exists for some reason though so I can see why people would rather it still exist

I think the original idea was that you would spend more TP for stronger abilities like a burst window and then resort to lower cost TP abilities to conserve it. Except that never really worked and most abilities had a flat TP cost except for AoE ones.

At some point, it was just decided that TP as it currently was didn't add anything to the game and it had been a mostly unused mechanic for so long that there was no reason to go back and retool it into something useful, so it was just removed. In theory, TP could've been better implemented to move classes away from rotations and cooldown centered gameplay to more flexible resource generation/spending designs, but since everyone was used to the former, it was more hassle than it was worth.

that's because nothing was interesting about it, retard-kun. that's true of most things 11-related though

>m-muh AoE
you want interesting, the game was more interesting and less homogenized when AoE capability varied significantly per job and the best AoE jobs were the ones not hindered by TP. even among the TP users some were better at AoEing than others, excluding dark knight

>>715045024
you would have loved heavensward dark knight then. many things to spend TP on and you lose darkside (= big damage penalty for several seconds) if you allow yourself to run out

in ff11 TP was a resource that you built and spent across multiple fights and you spent it in one large burst unless you were a samurai, hopefully in order to set up a skill chain/magic burst unless you were the guy doing a WS with an important debuff attached
in ff14 its just your dark souls stamina meter. dunno why I'm giving a vegetafag the benefit of the doubt

It kept anyone but casters from using sprint because it used all your TP

Largely TP was a carry over from FFXI and 1.0 where there was a combat system that actually meaningfully revolved around it and not WoW but with the names changed around to pretend it's still connected to those.

I don't miss TP
I don't miss having AoE skills and being unable to use them because they cost 120 TP
I don't miss having to weave in some enmity dump skill because Tanks didn't want to use their stance

I have never made $150/hour. Even if you only do 3 hours of recording, that is $450. Some $14/hour starbucks job is absolutely not paying you more than that unless you are doing a 13 hour shift.

There's no resource management at all left in the game, so sort of but also not really since it'd be as irrelevant as MP at this point.
