I do not understand what FSR is.

A retarded and useless feature whose only purpose is being marketed to normies and 70 iq apes, like ray tracing

shitty upscaling technique so lazy devs don't have to optimize for native rastering.

it's a worse version of dlss.

What's DLSS? I don't keep up with gaming features

What's the difference between FSR 2, 3 and 4?

AMD's upscaling technique, equivalent to Nvidia's proprietary DLSS. Basically way to iterate a lower scale rendering to produce a better looking higher resolution picture with less processing power when compared to rendering same resolution in native.

>>715047272
It's about the same. Nvidia puts more money in RnD so they usually have the edge for like 6 months and then AMD catches up usually. You can't count that as a competitive edge, but it's really not worth paying twice as much for same performance.

I have no idea why you would ask /v/, them ost technologically retarded of all boards.

It's a gaming feature for people that play games, no? I'm technologically retarded also, hence me asking here instead of just googling/researching

Only 4 is good, and it's officially only in a limited number of games.

What are the big differences? I just threw FSR2 on to Dead Space remake and it seems alright, minus some awkward floating sandy shit that sometimes pops up

I find in some games that allow it or that can be modded, it's better to use dlss for rendering the image and fsr for the actual frame generation.

It's upscaling primarily to help gpus reach higher resolutions for more expensive monitors. If you're still playing 1080 it's usually not relevant but it can sometimes help you reach higher fps by sacrificing image quality

After watching a youtube video, that seems to be called "ghosting"

Generally just less artifacting.

>>715047969
I haven't minded the previous ones either. There was some weird ghosting in the earlier ones but the extra frames were worth it.

The difference is image clarity, especially in motion. I think 2 and 3 are incredibly smudgy or too sharpened, lots ghosting.
FSR 2 and 3 also has a problem DLSS and FSR 4 doesn't, which is that some things just look... pixelated and like they're missing some shader or something. Especially around fog. Main example I've encountered is Darktide's holograms and certain liquid canisters.
FSR 4 is AI based same as DLSS. And it's like between DLSS 3 and 4, and DLSS 3 was already pretty good. And I think it's way less smudgy than DLSS 3 a lot of the time is.
I've had both Nvidia and AMD GPUs.
