It's not a matter of training you idiot, it's playing russian roulette with the bear's natural instincts. She got lucky. There was an equal chance for a switch to flip in it's head and for it to bite a chunk out of her neck.
Natural instincts are the sole reason why there are plenty of animals much more intelligent than dogs and housecats, like raccoons, but they're not kept as pets. It takes centuries of active domestication by humans (with the exception of cats, who essentially domesticated themselves) to breed out the natural survival and hunter instincts that make them dangerous to humans and civilization.
